Hiring a Search Engine Optimizer (SEO) - Do's and Don'ts

If you are doing any type of network marketing on the Internet, you will have someone contact you about SEO. Many want to sell you some system or get you to join a forum to increase your traffic or Google ranking. I have personally tried many of these promises and found little that helped. Now don’t get me wrong, many of these will increase your traffic, but first you need to understand what kind of traffic you are looking for.

Let me use a personal example to help explain some of the ins and outs of SEO.

I am a diabetic and about a year ago I decided to start a blog to help others with diabetes. My blog is called Diabetic Help. My first interest is to use my examples of dealing with diabetes to help others, by writing articles that may help others. My second interest is to help sell products from a company called Synergy Worldwide, which are the products (proargi) that help me maintain my diabetes. My third interest is to make some extra money from ads on my blog.

First is to determine what your objective is and build around it. With my objective described above, I am not looking for a lot of traffic that has no interest in diabetes, so many of the traffic generating sites like Traffic Swarm really do not help my objective. I have tried them and did receive a lot of daily hits, but the wrong readers.

Key words seem to be the best for this type of marketing. Now this can become tricky and takes some work. You will need to get a key word generator to really understand this and if you do not want to spend money find a free link like WordTracker. Word tracking programs helps you find high traffic key words so you can build them into your articles. Let’s use Diabetes for this example: Diabetes is the top of the list in ranking in Wordtracker with subjects surrounding diabetes, but it is also a high volume word on the internet with over 79 million sites related to the single word diabetes. But team diabetes up with Proargi and it drops to 9790. Now this could be good or bad. Anyone that has heard about the benefits of Proargi for people with diabetes and searches anything with these key words I am sure to get a hit but how many are really searching for this combination. Finding words that are high traffic and describe your article or site are the key to getting found on the internet. Diabetic Help is a great example; it reduces the amount to 8 million from 79 million and all of these 8 million people  want help controlling diabetes: these are the right people, my target demographic.  My blog Diabetic Help shows up on the first page of Google when ever anyone searches the two words together.

One of the next important keys is to get your article or site ranked higher in the main search engines. Factoidz is great for this because the lead tag in the address (factoidz) is already ranked high, so your Factoidz articles will show up well. Search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo rank on keywords and backlinks. We have covered key words but what are backlinks? Backlinks are links like I have used through this article–live links taking you on a detour directly to where the writer wants you to go. I have created Backlinks to five of my other Factoidz articles, one to my Diabetic Help blog and one to my Synergy site. This is why it is important to keep building articles referring back to whichever site or article you want. The more backlinks to a site the better the ranking; you can use a site called Hubspot to check your backlinks. You can create backlinks from commenting on other people’s blogs or forums and adding your http address. The best way is using bookmarking sites like Reddit, Digg, Tagfoot or the hundreds of others. Twitter and Facebook also helps build backlinks and also gets your link out in front of potential readers. Remember to create backlinks from your Factoidz articles that relate to other Factoidz articles, it will help your overall traffic on Factoidz.

There are many more ways to generate more traffic but I have found that proper key words and site ranking have given me the best results and you can do all of this with out spending any money. You can find a lot of great info on search engine optimization from the internet–study all you can and you will find the proper traffic will come.
