There are many products out in the market that claim to do this, do that and claim to make wonders especially on your skin. Remember that these products, though tested and made under quality control, are still produced in volumes and in many cases have been infused with different chemicals. As the awareness of using chemically prepared ingredients increases, more and more product-makers are joining the organic band-wagon. But frankly, if you are able to spend a little time taking care of yourself, then you can actually spare a little more making the products that take care of you like homemade facial care ingredients because after all, nothing beats natural!
A good facial involves cleansing, soothing massages and rubbing to stimulate skin and muscles, exfoliation to remove dead skin and to promote rejuvination of new skin cells, facial masks according to skin type, and lastly, protective creams to keep the skin healthy and glowing. Bear in mind that a healthy skin depends on a healthy lifestyle.
For cleansing, you can use natural astringents like tea tree oil, aloe vera gel, lemon juice or even cucumber, which is also a cleanser and moisturizer in one. Apply directly to skin using cotton balls. Leave it for a minute or two then rinse with lukewarm water. Use warm water to open pores of the skin. Remember that every time you apply anything on your skin, it normally wipes out the skin’s natural oils, so do not over-do, because it might lead to skin irritation and breakouts.
Now that your skin is ready for exfoliation, combine sea salt with olive oil or almond oil. Sugar is also a great exfoliant. Rub the face gently in circular motions. Do this for 3 minutes, then rinse with warm water. A mild tingling sensation should be okay.
The next step is to apply the facial mask: oatmeal combined with honey or mashed banana with honey. You can also use fresh milk or egg white if honey is not available. Leave for 3 to 5 minutes. It is natural to feel tightening of the skin at this point. After a while, rinse with cold water to close the skin pores.![]()
If you wish to apply protective cream after the whole process, make sure to use all natural and organic creams. But the last process would work just fine. Do the facial at least once or twice a month as the skin’s natural full regeneration process happens every 2 to 4 weeks. Also, it is wise to visit a dermatologist at least twice a year for an expert’s advice on skin care, especially if there is a history of allergic reactions to any of the homemade ingredients mentioned above. Different skin types (i.e.oily or dry skin) should also be a consideration.
A good facial need not be expensive. It can be done in the comfort of your home. It can also be a good leisure activity for you and your family, since there will be more than enough ingredients for more than one person. If not, you can always finish a glass of milk or a bowl of oatmeal straight into your stomach–so no waste at all. The good thing about homemade ingredients is that as well as applying them, you can also eat them–because either way, it will do you good.
