On one of the earliest days of this land upon which we tread, when the most ancient of men did walk, along their path they came across various things that they learned to use and gain respect for; among many of those first items were stones. These stones varied in all the colors of the rainbow according to their locations and mineral content. They were useful in many ways as civilizations grew, from fashioning weapons such as arrows, hammers, spears and tools for hunting and gathering food, to utensils for cooking and button closures for their developing wardrobe and fashions.
Since stones were essential for living, according to their status of being readily available as well as extremely useful of everyday life, ancient men naturally held stones as symbolic of reverence and worship. In other words, they were honoring the creator for blessing them with stones. For a while, ancient man held the stone in awe as if it were an actual expression of the creator’s manifestation to them. Later they realized that stone was another blessing of the creator, which held an infusion of the creator’s powerful spirit, and there were many different attributes which corresponded with mystical associations and divine powers. Delving into ancient history, you will find various interesting legends that tell of the usage of stone in ritual magic and religious ceremonies. Precious and semi-precious stones were useful and revered in a vast range of cultures the world over.
Ancient man was able to find these precious and semi-precious gemstones scattered here and there along the landscape, since hard rains and flooding had exposed the stones from far above in the mountaintops down into his surroundings, as well as into the river and creek beds. They also found many gemstones while digging for roots and gathering food. Truly, it is no wonder early man was in awe of these stones, especially considering that many of these stones made up the content of their weaponry and tools for everyday life.
Naturally, ancient man sensed the powerful forces and mystical powers of the creator infused within the rocks, crystals and gemstones they found and made use of; for them, these stones were the handiwork of the higher power gifted to them for their own good and welfare. They were thankful for the abundance of stones and their very many natural uses as well as their metaphysical elemental properties. In nature, they found and related these gemstones of crystals by their associated coloring in the new world around them.
