We pray for miracles and special needs when life takes a turn in a bad direction. We wonder why at times those prayers seem to be ignored. I can’t answer that question, however I can point out some things that may help. In Mark 6: 5 the scripture says that Jesus couldn’t perform any miracles in Nazareth, other than to heal a few people, because they didn’t have faith. The object of the story is that a prophet is never accepted in his home town. Perhaps it brings to mind a problem that we have today.
Our relationship with God should be akin to our relationship with our spouse or our children. Each day of our lives we do all we can to maintain these relationships because we love and desire these people to be in our lives. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of them and of ways we might enhance our relationship. Even when it comes to our family pets, we do what we can to ensure that we have a good relationship with them.
If you sat down and made a list of what you must take care of this year, in order of importance, where would God appear on the list? How much do we take for granted when it comes to our relationship with our Heavenly Father? From my experience most of us set aside Saturday or Sunday for God but the rest of the week He takes a back seat.
If I understand things correctly our relationship with God should be a daily thing. Realizing that God is our source for all the wonderful things we have in our lives we should nurture our relationship with Him just as we do with our family. I believe He expects us to turn to Him for guidance as well as for help just as we expect our children to rely on us for these things. We expect our family to be considerate and loving towards us, why shouldn’t God?
Fortunately God is true to his word and will never turn his back on us. He continues to wish the best for us and will do what he can to make us successful. The answer to our question might be found in the scripture I mentioned. Perhaps He can’t work in our lives because we don’t have enough faith or we don’t maintain our communication with him. If you remember the parable of the mustard seed, we really don’t have to do much. However since faith is an active thing, we must continually reach out and include Him in our daily lives. Then I would say we were being faithful and He could do much more for us. Once again think of it the way you think of how you hope your children will continually talk to you and let you know what’s happening in their lives. If they do you can help them, if you don’t know what’s going on you can’t.
I would say that a daily walk with Heavenly Father would make our lives much better.
I believe that we would still have bumps in the road and troubles to deal with but we wouldn’t be alone. When I was preaching I used to tell folks that those who place their hand in God’s hand and those who don’t walk the same road. The difference, when the believer falls down he has help getting up. When the other person falls he has to get up on his own. Sometimes getting up on your own is impossible.
