You don’t have to be a recent high school graduate, ready for college, to realize it’s high time to Get Smart! No, not talking about hours spent in front of The Learning Channel or online correspondence courses. Rather advising you to tap into your own natural "street smarts" and common sense this month to get ahead.
August’s Astrology theme is based on the classic television comedy, Get Smart, because in this economy, It takes a certain kind of wisdom to get by. Get Smart (a hilarious parody about spies) was one of the funniest shows to ever grace TV; not only for all-time, but for the1960s, an era that wasn’t so funny - just like this one. Some times ago, thanks to Norman Cousins, we learned laughter is the best medicine. I agree! if you can find a way to laugh today, it will help you better deal with whatever heavy drama is playing out at home or work. So take a load off, Fanny, because lightness of being, coupled with the common sense we were all born with, are ultimately the keys to getting smart.
Here, then, is August’s Psychic Astrology forecast for all 12 Zodiac signs, based on 12 Get Smart episodes, spanning the series life from 1965-70.
Aries: Ironhand (season 5, 1969) –Aries knows all too well what s/he wants, but just isn’t at all certain how long it’s gonna take to get it. One thing for certain, when you make up your mind, Aries, you go for it - whether it’s love, a job, or some other dream in the making. Both your iron will and your iron fist/hand help you power through to reach your goals. Still, you feel restless and frustrated this month, because it’s well, August, In the waning days of Summer, and nothing much is happening. But that’s just how it seems. Getting smart this month means ignoring your anxiety and frustrations and continuing to believe in your self. The invisible wheels of change are already in motion. Take a deep breath. It’s just a matter of time until you see concrete evidence of progress.
Taurus: Mr. Big (season 1, the pilot episode, 1965).– Even though the title is a reference to the male gender, pay that no mind, Taurus. What we are speaking about is someone looming large in your life, whom you believe has the power to change everything. Take it easy on this, Taurus, because there’s a lot that could happen to determine just exactly how much power Mr. or Ms. Big really has. Power is relative, Bull Sign, and can evaporate at any moment (just ask some recently scandalized politicians). You really don’t have to control everything 100% of the time, do you Taurus? So lighten up a little and give the Universe some space to surprise you about the power thing. It turns out Mr (or Ms) Big has something big to teach you. Getting smart means absorbing and recognizing the cosmic lessons when they come your way.
Gemini: It Takes One to Know One (season 2, 1967).– Here we’re talking about twins, Gemini - the yin/yang and dualism of your Sign. It’s playing havoc (or at least modern jazz) with you this month, because you’re undecided about making a move - either on a person, place or thing. First you want to; then you don’t. Knowing you, you’re afraid if you don’t get the timing exactly right, you’re gonna miss out, and the object of your affection or desire is going to slip (quicksilver-like) through your hands. If this is the case, put a damper on your fickleness and your indecision: know thyselves (both of you). Throw down the gauntlet (or at least the flag) and make a decision already. You get smart this month, Gemini, once you let the other person or people in your life know what you really want. Not everyone is a mind-reader, you know?
Cancer/Moonchild: Is This Trip Necessary? (season 5, 1969)–Okay, Cancer/Moonchild, your birthday celebrations are behind you. Now it’s time to put into place the promises you made to yourself when you added another candle to your cake. Travel and explorations are on your mind now. Even if you don’t think you can afford it, keep in mind (thanks to inflation), a trip is likely to cost less now, than later. Not only in terms of price (yes, gasoline), but in terms of time. Getting smart means understanding that being thrifty is not always in your best interest - especially when it comes to giving yourself a little break. This is a month to spread your wings - even if it’s just to go a short distance. A change of scenery will do you a universe of good. Start packing.
Leo: Smartacus (season 5, 1970). –We’ve already ordained you, Leo, as leader of our pack or office or relationship, but this mantle may have gone to your head. You might have made a mistake or fumbled a thing or two (think of the biggest Leo of them all, and you can see what I mean). This has called for some stepping-back and some tap-dancing on your part, because some of your recent moves have been a bit ill-timed or ill-conceived. Life is still very much in flux, Leo - here today, gone tomorrow, like so many of those shops in strip malls. It’s nice to think you know it all, but sometimes you don’t. August is a time for some reflecting about people in your life and how you treat them. You might want to turn down the volume on your ego, at least a notch or two. Your key to getting smart is to realize that we all make mistakes, even Leos. It’s ok, once in a blue moon. Just go easier on yourself and others.
Libra: Don’t Look Back (Season 3, 1968). –Life is unwinding nicely for you this month, Libra, like a silk ribbon that’s been tightly rolled up for so long. You have recently abandoned your tendency to hold onto things (and people) forever, and this is a good thing. One lesson this Recession has taught you is to keep moving forward in the direction of the light (in your case, perhaps klieg lights). You’ve nicely intuited some of the lessons from before; now you are living in the moment, and planning for the future. The slow-going August may tempt you to indulge in a little remembrance of all things past, but don’t you do it. Get smart and keep your eyes firmly focused on what’s ahead. Sooner than you expect, you’re gonna reach at least one of your major goals. And then you can use that ribbon to tie up the loose ends, like a present you’ve long been wanting.
Virgo: What’s It All About, Algie? (season 5, 1970). –August has got you reflecting and asking questions pretty much full-time. Virgo, you are in self-reflective mode, and this is a good time to focus on your inner-most thoughts, goals and desires, before things heat up in September-October. I mean ‘heat up’ in a good way: changes for the good are directly ahead for you. Part of this is due to the fact you already got smart. You now know more of what you want out of life (and a relationship). Some of it is colored "green" - meaning energy-saving, natural foods, organics - the need to save the earth. You’ve pretty much determined, and you have a Cause you’re willing to devote yourself to. Focus is good for you, this month, and in September.
Scorpio: Temporarily Out of Control (season 4, 1968). –Don’t feel like The Lone Ranger this month, Scorpio, because you’re not the only Sign who’s wondering what’s ahead in your job or what’s up with your significant other. It’s just that you’re more used to being in control than others, Scorp, and it’s hard for you to tread water and wait for the ship to come back in. But, in truth, some things are harder to control than others - like balance sheets, nepotism, inflation, and the fickle fingers of fate (and love). No matter what the feds say, there are still some rough economic waters ahead, and you may be in the midst of calming them down or riding the waves. Get smart by staying disciplined and focused, because uncertainty is only temporary. By Autumn, you will be back where you want to be - firmly in control; driving the speedboat.
Sagittarius: The Spirit is Willing (season 3, 1967). –I know you are waiting for some good things to happen this month, Sagittarius. You are so ready for the call-back or the pay-off or the proposal. But August is hot and people move slow and sometimes all they want to do is sit in the shade and drink lemonade. You have such energy, Sag, not even August can slow you down, but, for now, you have to put your pent-up energies somewhere else, at least for this month. Just like a pot o water does not boil while you’re watching, your dreams and desires go on hold if you focus (or obsess) about them too much. So leap full into learning (get smart). Read a long book (or write one), take up painting, or force yourself to the gym for some good old-fashioned,routine body work. The sooner you get started on a new endeavor, the sooner the good times roll again.
Capricorn: Back to the Old Drawing Board (season 1, 1966). –It’s really okay that some of your planning doesn’t work out the way you envision, this month, Capricorn. Think of the lessons you are learning in the meantime - not only about what it takes to get ahead, career-wise, but who’s trustworthy and who needs to head for the dust bin. That is what Getting Smart is all about - being flexible enough to change your mind and/or your plans - even if it means going back to the drawing board. In your case, Cap, you have a foundation upon which to build (literally or figuratively) and slow-going August is the perfect month to re-draw and re-design your plans on that drawing board. By Autumn, you will be back in the saddle (literally or figuratively), going horsepower ahead.
Aquarius: All in the Mind (season 1, 1966). –Aquarius, of course, you already know how you tend to over-think. So this month, take a vacation from all that cerebral deep-sea diving and float your way to relax. I’m seeing you Getting smarter by mentally discarding a lot of your old ways of thinking, and clearing your mind of all those have-tos and shoulds. Meditation is in order this month because that’s the best way to clean you mind-house. You’ve encountered a few body aches and pains this Summer; all clues that you need to pay as much attention to your body as you do your head (a little Spirit recognition would do you good, as well). By Autumn, a clear mind should get your ready for the Big Time (you know what that is).
Pisces: Moonlighting Becomes You (season 5, 1970).– You know you flow with the tides, Pisces, and the Moon has so much to do with how you feel about your self and your life. This month, the moon shines bright for you in several ways (moonlighting, the second meaning, also works here). Not only do recent recognition and/or rewards and awards have you basking in the moonlight, your talents have resulted in some extra work offers you hadn’t expected. It may take some deep reflection to decide which way you want to go -not only career-wise, but relationship wise. Getting smart, this month, means understanding the patterns in your life (like the moon’s cycles) and doing nothing major to disrupt them.
