Easy and affordable home entertaining: How to have a great party

Blended drinks are easy to make and taste as yummy as they look. They key to a good blended drink is getting the consistency of ice to liquid correct, If it looks too watery you need to add more ice. Too much ice obviously you need to add more liquid. Another key to a good blended drink is the garnish. Picking your fruits in colors that offset the color of the drink and enhance the flavor make a good blended drink even more appetizing. All you need is a blender and of course the ingredients. If you’re having a party make the mix ahead of time so that all you have to do is throw mix, and ice in a blender, garnish and voile. Here are some blended drink favorites.

Pina Colada

  • 1 oz light rum
  • coconut milk or cream
  • Pineapple juice

Garnish with pineapple slice and maraschino cherry

Strawberry Daiquiri

  • strawberry mix bought at store
  • 1 oz rum
  • splash lime juice
  • splash rose’s lime
  • splash triple sec

Garnish with strawberry and slice of lime

Margarita

  • 1 oz tequila
  • Sweet and Sour (S&S) bought at store
  • squeeze of fresh lime
  • splash of rose’s lime
  • splash of triple sec

wet glass, spin rim in kosher salt. Pour in blended drink and sprinkle a little kosher salt on top. Garnish with fresh lime slice

Jaz’s Melon Cooler

  • 1 oz Midori
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • pineapple juice
  • OJ
  • 1/2 an 1/2

Take a slice of watermelon, leave the rind on, slice into a triangle and slice half way through from center to end away from the rind, stick a grape on a toothpick and pierce through center of the rind. Garnish the side of the glass with this.

Party Time!!

Now it’s time to party. Throw a theme party together. Have a friend greet people at the door and hand out leis and grass skirts. Put on some Hawaiian music and though out the room place unlit tiki lamps if you’re having this indoor. Buy a kids pool, you know one of the cute little plastic ones. On the water in the pool float fake water lilies that you can put votive candles in glass in the center of and light. I recommend this set up is somewhere other than on carpeted areas of course, maybe on a patio or on your lawn, better yet if you have a pool just float the fake lilies with the candles on the pool. If you want to go all out get some sand and surround the kiddie pool with sand in mounds and place some sea shells and star fish in the sand. Place hula hoops everywhere and take videos of your friends acting silly.
