Belief in a form of God without believing in any form of standard religion? That’s impossible, as might be readily believed by some. But not so.
Logic would certainly dictate that we have no reason to look outside of any sensory experience; when an issue, ideal, logical premise or boundary, or other blind notion which cannot be validated, it must not exist. Take a solid object: when I can see it, feel it, smell it, or hear it, I know it’s there; but if I can’t see it and have no proof it’s there, it’s not there. Plain and simply, if no scientific explanation exists or can be logically formed, then it absolutely must not exist.
Do I follow that? Sure, to an overriding extent, but with heavy skepticism. Here’s why…
Consider terms such as passion, or justice, or moral principles, or mental health, or rights, or fairness, or fashion, or love. According to scientific principles these conditions cannot exist. Then why have we generated such terms?
Hmmm… Try answering that one.
In our everyday language we must employ terms like justice or rights or ethics or good and evil or even words like fashion or love. We have many more terms which prove that civilized human life needs such frivolous terms (just ask Friedrich Nietzsche) in accordance with any sort of scientific foundation since we willingly chase after ideals beyond our personal scope of rationality.
Take predestination, for instance…
If our lives have been foreordained by a form of predestination, why would we even bother to logically reason anyway? Wouldn’t predestination hold the foreground of our motivations, as according to any scientific doctrine, if everything must follow in an order of some empiricism? And those have become recognized as such trite terms we use to distinguish ourselves from any other animal, but those terms are exactly what prove us to be identical!
If humans do not require avoiding the realities of life with terms such as these, as well as our reliance so greatly on society and the mass media, how could we uphold any value systems? And how are we so much different from any other breed of animal? We are not. People justify behaviors this way, then travel in herds to large gatherings in places like churches purely to claim a niche to verify their recognition and acceptance by other people, or to meaningless jobs that they complain about relentlessly, yet convince themselves they cannot live without, then claim they do it all in the name of some ‘God’ idolatry as a form of justification.
Let’s get away from that and get back to the original premise. Why do I avoid standard religions? Despite my disagreement with many principles of every religion’s misconstrued version of the Bible and the misinformed following according to that religion (Mormonism, Catholocism, Christianity, to Judaism, to Jevohova’s Witness, to several other lesser religions), there are fundamental elements that I do agree with in studying each.
"And ain’t that a Rational Emotion?"
Above all, I avoid the unreasonable emotional baggage, such as guilt for not wasting every weekend to sit in church while pretending to be paying attention to some boring preacher with a mono-tone voice; pressured vulnerability due to my desire to praise my own individual worth; insecurity for not thinking along an established standard of “correct” thinking (as if there is one!); repression of my true intentions and opinions… and far too much more for me to narrow down in a single article.
But blatant examples are clearly evident within any social circle. For instance, despite what Christianity firmly endorses, being a member of that sect does not entitle anyone a priviledge or a right to a "higher form of judgment" in order to admonish and look down upon others for not being a part of the same religion. Nor shall any religious circle repeatedly preach such a message; that silliness is simply grade-school antics carried into adulthood that distracts from the ultimate reason for taking part in a religion.
Definition
Religion: a pursuit or interest followed with devotion.
In terms of my personal take, I do follow a religion then, in accordance with this definition, though far from any standard religious principles, even though I do believe in a variation of a God figure. Humans are by nature "good" creatures, despite what the Christian church instructs, unless tainted to no repair by damaging parents or familial situations (so that’s what needs to be avoided).
Without trust in anything proven or otherwise intangible, men would have no courage or reason or overall drive to pursue relationships with women. The race would not procreate and carry on, or even currently exist. Especially recently, within this past century, humans have radically began to shift, especially in terms of the feminine evolution or advancement we’ve faced. We have the naysayers right along with the progressivism of the common citizens who wonder about where this is going, about Globalization and Feminization: advancement or restraint?; or then we have the objective observers who wonder about the Evolution of Women; though we all must realize that a great Global population shift leading to Global unification has been and is still occurring as we speak. Thus we all need to seek a way in order to Think globally; act locally This is a huge transition we have been experiencing, so we had all better find a means to avoid furthering the disillusionment of traditional religious liabilities and blind obligations and instead be alert to this shift. We’ve been finally awakening while riding this roller coaster called the "information super-highway," and the only way to stay ‘on board’ is to be awake and aware of every rapid change!
