Pilates

This form of exercise was developed by Joseph Pilates in the year 1920 and was originally used for the rehabilitation program for prisoners of war, but it was later found to be very beneficial for people seeking a high level of fitness.

It is a form of exercise that emphasizes the balanced development of the body and is very popular in the country. It works well with everyone, and doing this exercise makes them leaner, stronger, longer and more able to do anything with grace and ease.

Though Pilates is great for abs, there are several other benefits that help you to improve your alignment and coordination and make your body more flexible. It increases the strength of the stabiliser muscles.  It stresses the use of graceful and fluid movements so that you can balance yourself much better no matter what position you are in.  This workout prevents you from injury as you grow older, thereby protecting you from painful and stiff joints, arthritis and rheumatism.  It makes your body flexible by strengthening and improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. Conventional workouts also create bulky muscles.

The six principles of Pilates are

Centering, Flow, Precision, Breath, Control and Concentration.

These exercises are not repetitive and can yield significant results in a very short time.  The exercises are done either on a mat, on the floor or equipment, and helps you to look and feel great.

This exercise is so safe and gentle to your body that it is used in physical therapy facilities to rehabilitate injuries.

Spinning

It is the new fitness mantra and has taken on a whole new meaning. It has gained lot of popularity in recent years. This workout is done on a stationary bike and can burn up to 500 calories within 45 minutes of intense workout, and keeps your muscles in shape.  It works on the whole body inside and out with various control-resistant movement. It has helped hundreds of people lose weight and gain energy.

It is a high energy form of exercise and is good for those suffering from joint problems.

Spinning helps you to maintain proper weight, control obesity, diabetes and heart problems and gives your body a thorough workout by burning lot of calories.  It improves stamina and strengthens calves and thighs.  It tones your calf muscles and strengthens your tendons, thereby improving the overall leg strength.  You can improve blood flow by targeting each particular muscle groups.  It also helps to improve posture and encourages the use of stabiliser muscles, thereby enhancing body alignment and posture. It reduces the risk of injury as it is a non-load bearing exercise. This means that while doing the workout, your body does not have to bear the burden of supporting all your weight. It helps you to tone and shape thighs.  Apart from wearing regular workout clothes, you need to wear a pair of sport shoes, as the bikes have toe clips. You can also wear tennis shoes and keep a towel with you as this exercise involves excessive sweating.
