Blackheads Be Gone!

How to get rid of blackheads and control your acne

Cosmetic products help to clear up this problem by removing excess oils through cleansing, sloughing off dead skin cells and adding moisture to skin.

Blackheads, also known as comedones, are actually formed when a whitehead plug stretches the pore on the surface of the skin.  The brownish or even black colour of the contents is actually caused by the oily contents being exposed to oxygen, turning it black–not necessarily due to the accumulation of dirt.  Nonetheless, oily skin needs to be cleansed, toned, and moisturized daily, helping to prevent the appearance of these blackened wonders.

External elements such as the collection of dirt, oil, makeup build-up, and dead skin cells as well as pollution, build up on the surface of the skin, leaving a dull and dirty appearance to the face and neck, and should be cleaned off daily. Oily skin has larger pores that tend to clog, and may have a waxy appearance, making a wonderful breeding area for blackheads.

Oily skin needs skin care products for exactly that . . .oily skin!  A good skin care regimen to follow would be to use a good daily cleanser to help cleanse the surface of excessive oils; a good toner, preferrably containing AHA’s, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which will help to loosen blackheads and refine the skin’s pores; as well as a good non-oily moisturizer with SPF to protect and prevent new blackheads from forming. A weekly pore-refining masque or deep-cleansing masques aid in the removal of blackheads as well.

But before starting that blackhead fighting regimen,  booking a facial is extremely beneficial!  A good steam and extracting facial, performed by a professional preferrably, can give you instant results in removing the blackheads.  A steam facial aids in the extracting process, which involves directly removing them from the skin using finger manipulation or a comedone extractor. Depending on the severity and depth of the blackhead areas, one or two facials will help start you off with clear skin.  After having the facial, or facials, it is very important to stay on a good skin care regimen to prevent blackheads from reappearing.  If they suddenly reappear over time,  treat yourself to another facial!  Facials are really not that expensive, and are well worth the results. Keep that skin clear and glowing!

Thanks for this article, I use to get them as a teen with oily skin, but now as a 'ahem' older person, I get these small whiteheads which my dermatologist says they are from too much lotion, but I have in my places I don't put lotion; my skin is no longer oily - is it age related?

As our skin ages our natural rejuvinating processes slow down, including the rate of oil production in the skin. Great news! Qualifying for those wonderful age defying products can be a lot of fun!
