I was having a conversation with a friend and it turned to why is all this happening in America, and what can one person do to stop it? She is a very religious person so the conversation centered around God and the efforts being made to remove his presence. The problem in America not only concerns God, but the freedoms we have enjoyed over the years. She turned and asked me why is God allowing this to happen? My answer was that it’s not God who has allowed this to happen, but all of us who have stood by and not paid attention or in fact ignored events that we knew were wrong.
I Corinthians verse 13 says, “ No temptation has over taken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”. This is an interesting scripture because it indicates that God allows the principalities and powers of darkness to manipulate things at times but he also gives those affected a way out.
What temptations are we faced with today that will surely turn us away from God and loose for us our freedom? How about expecting the government to do for us what we are to lazy to do for ourselves. Things like welfare, fake disabilities, applying for unemployment, applying for food stamps and so on. Before you jump and say I’m being judgmental, allow me to say that there are many people who legitimately apply for and receive help in these areas. There are also many people who are cheating the system and taking what they should be working for. The temptation to take advantage of the loop holes in the system are so great that many can’t resist. The healthcare question is another area that many are looking for the government to provide for them. I know that the system is broken and needs repair but a big part of the problem has been caused by complacency on our part. We’ve sat back and allowed our elected representatives to do things that have hurt us and said nothing. Reports from Fox News and people like Carl Rove and Newt Gingrich have stated that the present system is taking care of all but 20 million or so. They admit that it needs repair but to scrap it for government control may be a foolish and unnecessary move. Again many of us want the government to take over and fix things.
Does the scripture that I’ve quoted ring a bell with you? Do you see what’s being said there applies today. Is it possible that we are being asked to take our way of life back with our own hands? If this scripture is the truth, when we begin to fight on our own God will give us the weapons we need to win. Could this be the biggest test Americans have been asked to overcome since we left Great Britain and built our own nation?
