Trochanteric Bursitis

In Osteonecrosis, the cells which are present in the bones die, thus causing the bones in the hip joint to collapse due to insufficient flow of blood to the bone.

Snapping Hip Syndrome
Hip pain at night can occur due to Snapping Hip Syndrome, which involves the snapping of the IT band outside the thigh, snapping of the deep hip flexor on the frontal portion of the hip joint and also the snapping due to cartilage tear around the portion of the socket of the hips.

Hip and Stress Fractures
Hip fracture can cause hip pain at night, mostly in senior citizens who are suffering from osteoporosis. Hip pain at night due to the stress fractures are mainly observed in people who engage in heavy duty physical activities. Sportsmen who participate and train vigorously for competitions may face the problem of hip pain at night due to stress fractures.

Some More Causes of Hip Pain at Night

Apart from the above mentioned mentioned causes, the following are some more causes of hip pain at night:

  • Avascular necrosis in which there is death of bone tissue
  • Bursitis which involves inflammation of bursae of your hips
  • Condition of pregnancy in which there is weight gain, muscle stretching and uncomfortable sleep posture
  • Sciatica
  • Hip dislocation due to injuries and accidents
  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis

Symptoms of Hip Pain at Night

Following are the symptoms of hip pain at night:

  • You will feel the pain immediately after you stretch, twist your hip
  • Back pain and sweating at night along with a sudden fever
  • Limping to overcome the opposition, while making movements
  • Shortened leg due to fracture
  • Pain from sciatica which reaches the front of the hip

The problem of hip pain at night should be reported to your doctor if you feel it difficult to walk easily and comfortably, especially on the affected side. The hip pain at night which lasts for many days, the pain which lasts while resting or the swelling of the hip and thigh regions, and any sort of infections should also be brought to the notice of the doctor, for timely treatment. Physical exams, blood tests, X-rays of the hips, computerized tomography (CT) scans are the techniques used to detect this problem.
