Your wedding date has been decided. Among the multitude of tasks facing you is the prospect of choosing your bridesmaids. This can be a daunting task, so help yourself by first making a few decisions before you ask anyone to walk with you on your special day. How many bridesmaids do you need and what are your wedding colors? Considering what is ahead of you, choosing the “right” bridesmaids could make a BIG difference! Now review the list below and see how many of these issues you need to address.

  1. Are the ones you want to ask the type of person that is dependable? i.e. will they show up for fittings and rehearsal? Can they help you with small tasks or errands before the wedding?
  2. Do most of your potential maids wear close to the same size clothing? This might make a difference when choosing the style of dress because of size availability unless you plan to have the dresses custom made.
  3. Who would be upset if you did not ask them to be in your wedding procession? Some ladies will be glad to cut cake for guests, stand by the guest book, or help address the invitations instead.
  4. Do your bridesmaids have their own transportation or will they need a way to the fittings, rehearsals, or the wedding? Something this small can make a difference in how smoothly things go during tight time-related activities.
  5. Have any of them ever dated your fiancee? Will old flames or wounds cause havoc on your special day?

Even if you use a wedding planner, there will be many details to work out before your big day. Bridesmaids can help pick up items that have been completed, arrange for rides for older wedding guests, help assemble flower arrangements, etc. If you pick at least one bridesmaid that is or has been married, she will be invaluable to you when it comes time to make some of the decisions about flowers, where to get shoes dyed, and table settings for the reception.

It’s very important to be sure that your chosen ladies are normally calm people, because last-minute details will inevitably pop up and need a steady hand to address them…and you will be busy putting on your wedding dress and trying not to cry.

These may seem like basic pointers, but each one can cause problems during the planning phase and on your special day if they are not addressed in advance. Your wedding day is one of the big events in your life, planning ahead by choosing the right bridesmaids can help relieve stress. The right maids can help to make your day more enjoyable because you can spend your last moments as a single woman contemplating your new beginning.
