Music is the language of the soul. You can understand other people with the kind of songs that they like and love to listen. I remember, I started loving music in my early years. I would love to sing "BAHAY-KUBO" (Nipa Hut), a very popular traditional song in the Philippines. Any adult who would hear a little girl like me (years ago), would start humming if not singing that song. See? An adult connects his heart to the girl because of the song they both love to hear? In kindergarten, pre-schoolers will sing nursery rhymes that the teacher have taught them. Kids would still sing those nursery rhymes on their way home and mommies will sing along with the kids.
When my niece turned 2, I will just sing to her a few nursery rhymes that I have learned from my kindergarten years, and she was very pleased and happy to hear those songs. Now that she is 8 years old, she still loves me to sing her those songs (that was when I was still in the Philippines).
I love collecting cassettes when I was in high school and I sitll have them. Then from cassettes to CD’s. I love music from 50’s to present. But, the evolution never stops. If before, you can listen to your favorite music in your CD player or discman, now you can listen to your favorite music in your iPod, MP3, and MP4. Believe it or not, I do not have any of those new gadgets. I still am using my favorite discman. I carry my discman when I go out jogging. So what if discman is heavy? My brother once told me, "You better switch to MP3 or iPod, you can download and save tons of your favorite music, too." I replied, "Never mind. I love my CD’s." Where is the sentimental value there if I just download the songs and saved it or burned it?
Every three months, there is a CD collectors show here in Michigan. My husband and I loves to go there. You may not believe it, but there are young people who are also supporting that kind of collectors show. These young guys are buying vinyl records who you never thought they still exist. You can see songs from the past. I got most of my music CD’s in that collectors show.
Flat, Black and Circular is one of the most successful CD and vinyl records store here in Michigan. You can get your favorite old CD’s and some are new, also. I always get my favorite CD’s in a "cheap bin" stand. If I see a CD of my interest but a little expensive for me ($5 is still expensive for me, hehe), I will wait for a few more weeks and check the cheap bin stand if that CD is already there.
If you are a CD and vinyl records collector, you can try Goldmine magazine. You can check there if a CD and vinyl records collectors show is going to visit your place. And if you are into CD business or you sell online, you can try checking the next CD and music collectors show in your area.
