Long ago, molten lava boiled within the earth; the undeniable forces of high temperature and tension from great pressure, caused carbon to alter it into amazingly rare diamonds. Since the mass of volcanic substance was not contained below the crust of the earth, it all came rushing out from beneath, spilling forth onto the ground.

The ancients believed that diamonds were small pieces of stars that had fallen to the ground, or they considered them tears of the gods. Various cultures held their own beliefs of how diamonds came about, for instance, there is a legend in Central Asia of an unreachable basin that snakes stood guard and watch, while birds of prey watched over this basin covered in diamonds, and these creatures protected it.

Others felt that diamonds formed by lightening striking certain rocks. The ancient Romans believed that diamonds had the power to increase and encourage bravery and courage while in battle. They believed that while carrying or wearing a diamond, that success and boldness would be theirs as they conquered their enemies.

Diamonds are said to be crystals of love, courage, protection, trust and spirituality. They have been believed to have the ability to eliminate fear, reduce stress and depression, while improving the vitality for life. They help boost self-esteem as well as mental abilities and clarity of thought. They are amplifying crystals that increase the thought process, strengths and weaknesses as well as attitudes. They attract prosperity, generosity and the conviction of truth.

Diamonds resonate to the astrological signs of Aries, Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius, and are helpful when working with the crown chakra. They are said to have the ability to drive away negative energies and thoughts, while encouraging faithfulness and innocence. The ancients believed that a diamond knew if someone was innocent or guilty according to its color change when in their presences. When someone was innocent, the diamond would be clear and glowing, whereas if someone was guilty, the diamond would grow dark and gloomy.

The ancients believed that a diamond would actually sweat when in the same location as poison; they often used diamonds for detecting poisons, although they also believed that ingestion of a diamond to be poisonous. The ancients believed that diamonds held mystical powers of enchantment and they had the ability to influence unconditional love, peace, confidence and clarity. Diamonds were useful for detoxification purposes.

Royalty were the only people who wore diamonds before the 15th century, because they were symbolic of valor, bravery and the power of undefeated sovereignty. However, this precious crystal rose from common coal and reached its distinguishing distinction as the supreme crystal of love. The Archduke Maximilian of Austria felt a deep need to search for a gift of honorable love to offer to his future bride Mary of Burgundy; he decided that a diamond ring was the answer. This inspired the modern day engagement ring.

Diamond is the birthstone of those born in April, since these natives are known for their strong feelings of love and their vigorous feelings of forthright energy and powerful attitudes.

A crystal elixir of Diamond is said to have the ability to strengthen and stimulate our personal will and ability to interact with higher forms and divine purposes with harmony. Perhaps you may be interested in more information concerning diamonds and gemstone uses.
