I, and many other people I’m sure, save most if not all of the paper and plastic bags I get when I go shopping. Lots of people have purchased the reusable bags which are great, only thing is I always seem to forget them in the car or at home. But I always make sure to save the bags that I do get from the grocery store–or any other store, for that matter–to reuse or repurpose. So if you have tons of plastic and/or paper bags here are a helpful list of different uses for them:
• Use in a trash can, as a liner, for trash
• Use to hold aluminum cans for recycling or other recyclable’s
• Use to put dirty kitty litter in when cleaning the cat litter box
• Use to pick up pet poop when your dog uses the "bathroom" outside
• Use in your car to throw away trash or for a sick bag in case someone needs to throw up in the car
• Use for throwing up when sick and you can’t make it to the bathroom
• Use when moving to pack up stuff including knick-knacks, picture frames, foods, pet toys and clothing.
• Use to wrap glass or other breakables when packing.
• Use paper bags for craft projects; you can shred the paper for confetti or draw on the bags to create art.
• Use for kitty litter or to line the cat litter pan with; you can either shred the paper and use for litter or add to your litter, and you can use the plastic to line your cat litter pan.
• Take them back to the grocery store to reuse them or give them back for recycling or reusing, some stores have a large recycling bin just for plastic bags.
• Use to pack a lunch or an overnight bag.
• Make a rug with plastic bags.
• Make a Christmas wreath with plastic bags.
• Give your bags to a food pantry (food bank) that will use them to place groceries in, that they give away.
• Use them to store holiday decorations in.
• Hold plastic bag above head to keep from getting wet in rain.
• When painting, wrap wet paint brush in plastic bag and it will not dry out.
• If your arm or foot is in a cast or bandaged you can wrap a bag around it to protect it in the shower.
• Make pet pillows or beds.
• Use as knee pads when gardening.
• Use when peeling carrots or potatoes–peel them over a plastic bag and you will have less mess to clean up.
• Use as wrapping paper, double- to triple-bag the item and cut the top to make the plastic fan out like a bow.
• Use to put a wet umbrella in to dry.
• Use to protect shoes when going outside into the snow or dirt or mud.
• Use as a plant filler in a pot; you won’t need as much soil for the plant, put the bag in the bottom of the pot.
• Use to cover a cookbook so you won’t get anything on it when you’re referring to a recipe when cooking.
• Use them to thaw out meat; put the meat in the bag and once it’s thawed out there will be less mess to clean up.
• Crochet tons of stuff from plastic, refer to Cristen Crochet, she has made several different things with plastic bags.
