For Personalized baby shower invites DIY is the way to go! You know the essentials an invitation should include but what about all the rest?
Whatever theme you decide on here are the basics.
1. decide on the theme and the shape of your invitation. Use a die cut or postcard size cardstock.
2. print your essential info on the cardstock
3. cut velum the same shape and size of the cardstock
4. make two small (hole punch) holes at the top center and lace ribbon (reflective of the theme) through the holes and tie a bow on the front.
You can go a few different ways to make the invitation a reflection of the parents or of the party theme or all about baby.
Two/Three options if the shower is based on the parents:
- is this lady’s only
- is this men only
- is this a co-ed shower
- The trend is more and more to have co-parent showers so it is important to state that in the invitation.
Then plan games that include both genders. An easy way of doing that is in the invitation. When you have a co-ed party you tend to have more guests. One way to keep it simple it to have a theme. For example: the theme is TIME. Changing time (those invitations announce that they should bring a gift that is applies to changing time. Diapers, wipers, ointments, etc.. ) Dinner time (these invites announce things that aid in feeding time.) and so on. If you are ambitious in your invitation designs you can customize your graphics to reflect the times. If it is a co-ed party, I also suggest keeping the frills to a minimum and do not go with the traditional finger sandwiches.
If you have decided to make invitation that tie into the party theme you have and endless supply of materials at a craft store.
Themes:
- Noah’s ark -popular with twins. Make an ark an put some animals in with the times and locations of the party.
- Lamb’s are always a sweet theme.” Another lamb in God’ flock”. Your invitation can be a lamb or Christian based depending on the parents faith.
- Cowboy/Cowgirls = hats or boot invitations (die cuts can be found at Michael’s and other craft stores)
- I’ve done a “Belle of the Ball” for friends that are sport’s nuts and having a baby girl. The baby was to be named Bella but the theme was pink footballs, thus the invitation was a pink football. Puns are always fun twists.
- Nursery rhymes are always fun and you can just print on a 4X6 with the rhyme and characters.
My advice: If you do a DIY babyshower invitation give it meaning and be creative. Oh and don’t forget to save one for the baby book ;-)
