There are things that you can store in your garage and some things that should be stored in a garage to keep them from the elements and from falling into the hands of little ones. The garage is not just a good place to store car, it is an ideal place to keep many other things that you want to protect from the elements, or not keep indoors.

Handyman Tools

Tools used around the house can be stored in the garage using pegboards and hooks. You can use the pegboards on one side of the garage to hang all of your tools so that they don’t take up any space on the floor of the garage. If you need a place for tools that won’t hang up, you could use a tool cabinet in the corner out of the way. Make a jar rack to keep nuts and bolts so you always know where they are when you need them.

Yard Tools and Equipment

Place hooks on the walls to hang gardening tools such as rakes, hoes, shovels and even the smaller hand gardening tools. Lawn mowers and snow blowers can be kept on one side of the garage in a single file against the wall so that it does not use so much floor space.

Pest and Garden Supplies

Make a shelf on one wall up high enough out of the reach of little ones to store pesticides and gardening chemicals. The shelf will not take up any floor space and can be arranged so that all chemicals are arranged according to where they are used and for what.

Lawn Furniture

Use extended hooks to hang lawn furniture from walls or if you have rafters in the garage, use a piece of plywood to make a shelf in the rafters to store lawn furniture during the winter months when you don’t need the furniture. Recliners, chairs and tables can be stored neatly in the rafters. If you have furniture that is bulky or doesn’t fold down, you can store them along the walls or hang them from the rafters using rope or twine.

Sporting Equipment

Store sports equipment in the garage on one side of the garage. You can use hooks to hang skates, skis, nets, fishing equipment and use a netted bag to hold volleyballs, footballs and basketballs. Snowmobiles could be stored under the wall items or placed on the same wall with the yard equipment so it is easy to get at.
