Debating whether a dog or cat makes a better pet is all a matter of opinion and personal preference. Cats can have a tendency to be much more independent whereas dogs do seem to need their owners and are much more attentive.

If you are a more independent person, one that is not always home, one who loves animals but are not the “clingy” cuddles type person, a cat may be the best pet fit for your life and lifestyle. With their food out where they can reach it at anytime, along with access to their litter box and toys, they pretty much have all they need to get by when left alone.

On the other hand, a dog can have access to their food and water but they still need you to let them out, play with them, give them a lot of attention. They could not be left alone for too many hours, or even days as a cat (shouldn’t have to) but can get by on their own.

It is not to say that definitively a cat does not need their owners as many cats can and have been as cuddly and attentive as some of their canine friends, while at the same time many dogs have been known to be a little independent and also lay around, cleaning themselves like a cat. Let us not stereotype any animal as it still does depend on how we train and treat them once they join the family.

Pets are treasured members of the family and many studies have proven that people who have pets tend to be happier, more independent and feel more secure than those without pets. Again, the type of pet you choose depends on your lifestyle and needs, finding that compatible pet to fit your life.

Some of the comparisons of dog versus cat can be first; the cat is satisfied with the litter box and all their other indoor pleasures whereas the dog needs their daily walks and/or going outside.

Cats are able to be litter box trained and not to scratch the furniture but pretty much resist any other training (except with an awfully lot of patience) while dogs are pretty easy to train as they want so much to please their owners.

Cats are rather serene, independent, with spurts of playfulness while a dog is exuberant to see and be around you.

Cats are content to be left alone whereas dogs need the human companionship and love being around other animals.

As a result, there really is no right or wrong answer to the question of whether a dog or cat is a better pet . . . a better fit for the family.
