I can only suppose that edible flowers have been around almost as long as the ground they grow upon. People have been eating flowers since the time of the ancients. Flowers were most likely a staple in their diets, especially when game was hard to come by. Actually, the history of flowers you can eat is very long, starting from the first humans to walk the earth, to the times of grand kings and queens living in their castles. The Romans, the Chinese and Indians were including edible flowers in various meals and desserts for thousands of years.

During the Victorian times, edible flowers were all the rage, most likely because of the various meanings that the Victorians placed upon various flowers. Flowers were especially meaningful during the Victorian times and they used them in various ways to convey messages to one another. I do believe that they also put great stock in not only the flower meanings they had for them as well as the vibrational powers that the plants corresponded with at that time and still do today.

However, the fascination for edible flowers has never stopped. Many people today eat flowers. They can be included in various recipes; however, it seems that the best way to use flowers in recipes is not to include a lot of extra seasonings that would overpower the tastes of the flowers you eat. They are meant to compliment the recipe, while using them for cooking and eating. Edible flowers are especially popular for those who chose a vegetarian diet. Edible flowers can provide various minerals, vitamins and nutrients to your diet.

Many of the vegetables that we eat today are actually flowers, such as broccoli, artichokes and cauliflower, although we may call them veggies, they are actually flowers or edible flowers. Some edible flowers or flowers you can eat are used to make various type of flower jelly, such as rosehip or rose petal jelly or jam. They may also be useful for making flavored sugars for garnishing different drinks or dishes. By searching around online, you can find various recipes you can use daily when you are interested in including edible flowers to your diet. You can even grow your own edible flowers.

If you do decide to grow, your own edible flowers there are various things you should consider. For instance, while buying flower seeds to plant in your garden, you should check the pack of flower seeds to ensure that the type of flowers you buy are edible. There are also safety precautions you should adhere to in order to grow flowers that are safe to eat. For instance, you will not want to include any pesticides or herbicides to the flowers you grow and plan to eat.
