Factoidz.com shows content producers the money
Let me start by linking to an excellent question asked by R Warner: What does Factoidz do to promote Factoidz? This question initiated a discussion that deals with getting the maximum attention, and therefore the maximum revenue, for our creations, i.e. factoids. This discussion is already packed with an abundance of good information. This info is required in order to do the second and really the most important part of any article writing endeavor: SEO
Search engine optimization is essential. An original, quality article is the first step. Here at Factoidz.com we believe in "quality first" I’m amazed at the stuff we produce. When held up beside some of the content diarrhea you will find at other article submission sites, any one can see the difference. Anyone accept the infamous search robots. So, until the robots get a bit smarter, and they will, we need to do a very important second step. We need to promote these creations of ours.
Social book marking is key. These sites, you know, like Twitter and Facebook, Digg and Reddit, are what I believe are "teaching" the robots what people online really like -and they like quality, readability, and thorough but concise information. The robots know they need to get away from counting keywords, and therefore get away from spun and pasted garbage, in order to return the results that people are looking for. In-linking is also very important. It is hidden in plain sight, but the pure genius of Factoidz.com is the structure of the site, and it has been since the beginning. What Factoidz Adimin does and is continuing to do to organize and in-link all this information that we contribute has been incredible. The latest improvements: Channels along with channel editors, in my opinion, is going to blast this already super-fast moving vehicle with a shot of nitrous oxide and press us all back into our seats at about three "Gs"
The thing is, they are counting on us to not only contribute great content, but to do what we can to promote it also. I want to focus in on a campaign we started a few weeks ago. We did over 100 articles about business and self employment with a "spin" that discussed insurance. The things that I plan to do to give this content a great SEO boost will apply to any other channel, or any other content. Here it is nut-shell style:
Google Bookmarks: Everything I write, and everything I read on Factoidz and online in general, from now on, I am clicking the Google bookmark icon. It only takes two seconds. It is a great tool for finding the stuff you have read or written when you need to go back to it. I even plan to go "retro" within Factoidz, and revisit some of the old stuff. I’ll vote, comment, and Google book mark.
Twitter: I’m a big fan. It’s another easy way to promote articles. It only takes two seconds. As R Warner said, a small following can limit the impact. For that reason, I am going to work diligently to build up a following. I found a good way to do this. Using the "search" within Twitter, I searched "Factoidz" this helped me find a bunch of factoiders, and others who promote stuff they have read on Factoidz.com. Admin, if you have noticed, has done a great job with links to Twitter for following certain channels. It’s all a function of time. The more time you put in participating and updating, and the more time that goes on, the following will build…exponentially.
Facebook: This is a great social site, like MySpace…For grown-ups. Although, I’ve found it to be too personal for a guy with personal problems. However, a good bunch of these (personal troubles) are being worked out as I write this. So as my divorce is in the works, I’m coming out of my shell and I plan to become a lot more social and promote my online writing and that of my friends on this site. It’s a fine line between the enjoyment of socializing and the chore of networking. If you are having fun with blogging and promoting your content, you are on the right side of that fine line!
Reddit: I like this one, because it is EASY! it’s another of those two second deals. However, I have a lot of work to do to tie in with others on this site, making friends and sharing good content. Following Mike Q’s advice, I’m going to use this for the "wow, I didn’t know that" type stuff, as well as technical stuff.
Digg: This is a very powerful one like stumble upon. It takes more than a couple minutes to post something new, but if someone else beats you to posting it, which has been happening a lot since Factoidz introduced the "buzz it up" feature, it doesn’t take long to comment and digg. I also have to do some friends list building here.
Stumble: This is a massively powerful site. I’ve noticed a huge boost in views when getting an article submitted here. However, they don’t mess around with being used just to promote a single site like Factoidz. So to really be a force with Stumble, you must "Stumble" enough other general sites before they will allow you to post a Factoid. This makes it one of the most time consuming, but worthwhile social bookmarking sites.
...And the rest: Delicious, Mixx, Microsoft live favorites, Simpy, Diigo, Wirefan, Propellor and Searchles…Not to mention a few others like Yahoo Buzz, etc. are all very good too. However, as much as I tell myself I’m going to thoroughly promote articles on every one of these, well, there are not enough hours in a day. So for this campaign on linking the self employment articles, I thought "teamwork" could come in. I thought that it would be great if we all did the above mentioned sites to promote these articles, but then divide up "All the rest" each team member promoting on their small batch of social book marking sites out of this catagory.
Finally and most importantly, I need to, we ALL need to follow Sam Montana’s example. He has a website for each of the categories he writes about. He posts a portion of his article on his site, and points back to factoidz.com for the piece in it’s entirety. My personal Blog is a train wreck. Don’t even try to check it out…your computer will explode. However, please DO check out Sam’s sites. Just one visit will show you exactly what needs to be done.
I think that anyone applying to be a channel editor should have a set up like this. To be really successful at this latest and greatest idea from the leaders of Factoidz; Channel Editors…Building a following by faithfully participating in the above mentioned sites along with having blogs and websites like Sam’s set up will be essential. So many plans, so little time! Here is where life hacking skills (I seem to lack) are required. We can find great information on life-hacking here at Factoidz…
