Cancer is becoming more common in people of all ages. Cancer means the abnormal growth in your cells and divides without control. Cancer is a well known disease and killer of many human lives in the world. There are hundreds of types of cancer. The top five most common types that this Factoid explains about are lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer and prostate cancer.

Lung Cancers: When abnormal cells grow in lungs, one will get lung cancer. Lung cancer kills more people than any other type. The death toll from lung cancer is around 90,000 men and 40,000 women. A lot of times smoking is what causes lung cancer. There are usually no symptoms to lung cancer. Those few who do have symptoms may experience coughing that gets worse over time, coughing up blood, chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing or repeated respiratory infections. There are four stages of lung cancer and the treatment provided is completely determined on the particular stage of a cancer.

  • Stage one: The cancer is just confined to the lungs
  • Stage two: The cancer is confined to the chest.
  • Stage three: This stage the cancer is still confined to the chest but the tumor is larger.
  • Stage four: The cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

There are many treatments for lung cancer including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Colon Cancer:

This type of cancer is also known as colorectal cancer. Colon cancer is cancer of the colon or the rectum. Cancer tumors in theses areas usually form in the large intestine. There are a few things that can cause colon cancer including having a high fat intake, genetics and a condition called colitis. There are many symptoms for colon cancer. These include weakness, fatigue, change in bowel movements, blood in stool, diarrhea and constipation, loss of weight, cramps and abdominal pain. The main treatment for colon cancer is surgery.

Breast Cancer:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is also the second leading cause of death in woman. The most common ways one can know if they have a breast cancer is if it shows up on a mammogram, or if one has an unusual lump on the breast. Some other symptoms that one may experience are changes in how the breast feels, nipple tenderness, change in size or shape in breast, or the skin is an orange color. The risk age for breast cancer is ages forty five to fifty five. Treatments for breast cancer may include surgery, mastectomy, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy and chemotherapy. The treatment depends on the stage one’s breast cancer is in.

Stomach Cancer:

Doctors can not say why stomach cancer is formed but there are a few things that can make a person more likely to have stomach cancer. They are people aging seventy or older. Men are more likely to get this than women. People who eat a lot of smoked or salted foods get this cancer. Smoking and genetics are the other notable causes of stomach cancer. The symptoms of stomach cancer are discomfort of the stomach; feeling bloated after a small meal, nausea, vomiting and/or weight loss. The treatment options for this type of cancer include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

Prostate Cancer:

This is cancer in the gland that creates seminal fluid. This One in six men will get prostate cancer before they turn eighty. Prostate cancer usually does not show any symptoms. There are a few and rare symptoms it may show including troubled urinating, staring and stopping while urinating, blood in urine, swelling in legs and discomfort in pelvic area. Some factors that can cause prostate cancer are hereditary, hormones, diet and environment.

There are a few ways or methods that you can treat prostate cancer including external beam radiation therapy, radioactive seed implants, hormone therapy, radical prostatectomy, surgery, chemotherapy and cryotherapy.
