Grandparents have it all! Their houses are full of everything imaginable, so what gift can you give your grandparents that doesn’t look cheap, but is inexpensive?
You have to remember, grandparents love personal things. With that thought in mind, here are a few tips to help with the anxiety of grandparent gift giving on the cheap.
Make a DVD of yourself (and them) - You probably have hundreds of pictures of you and your grandparents somewhere in boxes or on your computer. Get a blank DVD, pick about five songs, and make them a memorable gift! They will keep this forever and show it to everyone! Your cost will be way under $5.00 but you’ll have to put some time into it.
Picture Magnets - Magnets will never go out of style! These are very inexpensive and so very thoughtful. You can use a picture of whatever you want to use, upload it to Mpix.com and order magnets. These will come nicely packaged in the mail to you and the cost is as cheap as $2.45 ea.
Christmas Basket - Not your typical Christmas basket, though. Buy a storage like cloth or woven basket at Wal-Mart, embellish it with anything you like. Embellishments can be purchased at Wal-Mart in the craft section. Add a bunch of homemade goodies to it, such as; cookies, brownies, sausage balls or anything else. Wrap the goodies up nicely (for freshness) and add a personal handwritten note inside telling them how much you love and appreciate them. The container can be used later as a decoration in their house or as a storage container. Total cost will be under $10.
Collage - Collages are fun and super inexpensive. Make an old-timely college, no digital hocus pocus. Go to Goodwill or your local thrift store and purchase a framed picture. Make sure you like the frame, you’ll be using it for the collage. Purchase a piece of poster board or you can use cardboard. What you’ll be doing is adding all kinds of information in this collage that pertains to your grandparents. Find a bunch of pictures and then get creative. Add information of things such as, where they’ve lived (maps are great to cut up and use), where they’ve worked, where they went to school, what they’re hobbies are, etc. Use pictures and text from phone books, the internet, magazines and anything else you can find. Make it resemble their life. Glue these onto the cardboard in random order. Place the whole thing in the frame. Your total cost will be under $10 and the surprised look on the their faces will be priceless.
A coupon book - Coupon books are darling for smaller children to work on. It’s easy and simple. Create a small coupon book and have the child (ren) decorate and design their own coupons for their grandparents. You can add things like “I will come over and take the trash out” or “One Hug Coupon”. These are so delightful and you can add a small journal book with this coupon book. The journal book should be pictures and illustrations that show what the child(ren) enjoy about their grandparents. Things like a swing with the grandparents sitting in it while the child(ren) are playing in the yard. Let the child(ren) do all the decorating. Kids have fun with this and grandparents love it! Total cost is under $10.
You see, Christmas gift giving doesn’t have to be costly or confusing. No matter how eccentric or simple, these inexpensive gifts are sure to please! Have fun!
