A kids’ birthday party can have a lot going on. You want to have great food, that the kids will be interested in. This will help you get them to sit down, or at least calm down a little. Be sure to plan your meal ahead of time, so you will be able to have a less stressful day. I have put together some foods, that are kid-friendly, and some are very creative ideas.
Basic Snack Foods:
* Animal crackers are easy, and kids enjoy playing with them.
* Chips served in colorful bowels, or fun shaped bowels.
* Large Pretzels. You can serve them with different dips, you may want to add food coloring for an individual flair.
* Celery filled with peanut butter. You can also fill them with cream cheese, add different food colorings for excitement.
* Small Cherry tomatoes, hallowed out. Fill with cream cheese or ranch dip, colored with food coloring.
* Large cheese puffs (prepare for the fingerprints).
* Hollow an apple out, fill with peanut butter, top with granola or your preferred topping. This is an interesting idea, but only make a few, kids can share an apple-could also be halved or quartered.
Sandwich Ideas:
* A simple Peanut butter and jelly works great. You can use cookie cutters to make shapes, and place on a platter. You can also make an opened faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Take one piece of bread, spread peanut butter, then draw shapes with the jelly. Squeeze bottles work better for this.
* Take any sandwich meat, bread, and cheese. Cut into different shapes with cookie cutters. You can then place on serving platters, kids can make there own sandwiches. If they would like condiments, you can assist them.
* Cover a small tortilla with cream cheese, place ham and turkey on top. Then fill with lettuce and tomato. Roll the tortilla up, and cut into small pieces.
* Hollow out a dinner roll, fill with tuna or chicken salad.
* Grilled cheese sandwich. This is great for a small amount of kids.
Hot Ideas:
* Mini corn dogs, served with ketchup or mustard. Make drawings on the plate for interest.
* Fun shaped chicken nuggets. You can make drawings on the plate with this as well.
* Chicken wing drummettes, fried or baked. Serve with honey mustard, ranch, ketchup or barbecue sauce.
* Pigs in a blanket. Cut cooked hot dogs into smaller pieces. Then wrap with biscuit dough. Bake until brown.
* Mini pizzas. Set up a small buffet with the available toppings. Use muffins as the crust, and have them sauced prior to serving. Have the kids pick their toppings, and you will place in a toaster over. Cook until ready. Kids will love having an individual pizza for themselves.
* Nachos, topped with chili and cheese. Use food coloring to make the cheese interesting.
Deserts and Fruits:
* Fruit Bowls make a healthy desert, but you have to make it interesting. Take a large orange, or grapefruit and empty out the contents. You will cut and mix the contents of the fruits of your choice, and loosely re-stuff the fruit "bowl". Now prepare jello, and pour into the bowl with the fruit. Let set, and serve.
* Small graham cracker houses. Take graham crackers and use icing to hold them together. Makes an interesting desert idea.
* Cookies shaped with cookie cutters.
* Cake is important. If you want a great cake, I would suggest shopping around, and buying one.
* Small truffle cups
* A chocolate fountain is fun for kids, if you don’t mind the mess.
These are just a few ideas that you may want to use. Be creative, and keep kids interested. If you are preparing foods, use things like food coloring, or different bowls to make it interesting. No matter how old, your child is going to have fun. This only happens once a year, and the years go by fast.
