Golf, Part 37, Better Golf Fitness Exercises

I jump rope to stay in shape. I’ve been jump roping since I was a teenager. When I was training to wrestle, jumping rope was part of the workout. Most kids jump rope, and they are having fun. They aren’t thinking about keeping their bodies in shape, but that is what they are doing. Jumping rope is one of the best ways to get into shape, and to stay in shape. A jump rope doesn’t cost very much. For a couple of bucks you can have great exercise, and have fun doing it.

Jumping rope for a quarter of an hour will burn approximately 200 calories. Depending on your weight and how hard you work at jumping rope will determine the actual calories burned. Jumping rope is easier on the lower extremities than running. It’s great aerobic exercise. The calves of your legs get a good workout when you jump rope, because you land on the balls of your feet. As your calves absorb the weight of your body as it hits the floor, those muscles get more developed.

Now, do you really want to have some fun? You can Jump rope to your favorite music. Pick out a fast song with a great beat and get started. Before jumping rope, you should make sure that your rope is the right length. You should be able to hold the jump rope at shoulder height while you are stepping in the middle of the rope.

Before you start jumping you will need to give your muscles a good stretch. Start easy, especially if you are a little on the older side, or de-conditioned, don’t try and jump too fast or too high when you first start out. Jumping rope for exercise is strenuous exercise. Don’t try jumping rope every day. Give yourself a day off in between, so that your muscles can recover.

By using your arms to jump rope your arms get a good work out too. If you don’t jump rope, there is time to learn as long as you are on this side of the ground, and you can still draw breath. Go to town and purchase a good jump rope and then just have fun jumping rope. It might take you a while to be able to jump rope with any real speed, but you will get there with practice.

Once you start jumping rope, you can keep a rhythm going. You can almost lose track of time and just enjoy the activity. You will never find jumping rope boring. It can be very boring walking on a treadmill, or working out on a home gym. With a jump rope you can go outside and enjoy the air while you jump. If you jumped rope as a kid, but you haven’t done it since you became an adult, go ahead and start jumping rope again. You have not forgotten how to jump rope. It’s like riding a bike, you never forget how.

Very good point(s) here: it's a way to start out at your own pace if you don't already have a fitness plan. Kevin, you must be the most physically-fit specimen on the planet.

LOL...I don't know about that Clairsie! But at slightly over forty I'm in the best shape of my life. I wish I could say it was from exercise and training, but it's mostly from the daily 10 hr. Workouts I'm getting on the fishing boat. If only I could make a living using the muscle between my ears! I'm working on it...
