Do you have everything that you want? Are you doing everything that you want to do? Is what you do everyday in line with who you are? I am a lifestyle consultant and I teach people how to become in tune with who they are, what they want, and where they want to be in life. My philosophy has always been that you cannot find true happiness within yourself if you are not doing the things that you are meant to do, When we are born, we are born with a set of natural skills and talents that are in line with what we are meant to do.
As children, we enjoy nurturing these talents because they make us happy. It is what we want to do. It is our job in life to figure out what these talents are and nurture them, whether that be by gaining experience, training, or getting a formal college degree. Also while we are growing up and trying to nurture these talents, most of us experienced conditioning from our parents, family, and friends. We heard things like, "you don’t really feel that way, you don’t really want that, you can’t make money at that, you need to get a real job, etc". Have you been conditioned? Let me ask you this, is the job that you have now something you want to be doing everyday and would do even if you were not getting paid for it? If the answer is no, why not? If your answer is stability, that is a valid reason for working somewhere without you loving it, but what are you doing to reach the goals that you have set for yourself in the job that you really want to be doing?
So, what is the first step to getting the life that you want? Decide what you want. Sit down and make a list of all the things you want to be, see, do, have, write down everything. Then you will be able to look at it and make a plan for yourself. Everyone can decide to make changes in their lives. I once heard someone say, "if you are unhappy about something then that means you believe that there is something better". This statement will always be in my head and hopefully it will be in yours too. Hopefully it will inspire you to decide exactly what it is that you want your life to be and to start taking the steps that will lead you to that place.
Another place to start is by doing what I call the fifteen minute exercise. For this exercise you will need someone you trust to help you out. Have your friend sit in a chair directly across from you and set a timer for fifteen minutes, Make sure that your friend has a pen and paper. Have your friend ask you over and over again, for fifteen minutes straight, "who are you"? At first you will tell her what your name is, what your job is, where you work, but as you start running out of things to say, you have to pull the answers from deeper within yourself, I like to say that the answers within the last five minutes of the exercise is who you are at your very core.
Once you know what you want and who you are, start planning action steps that will move you toward those goals. Take each goal and break it down into different steps, then write down specific actions you can do to push you closer to those goals. It will happen for you as long as you put in the effort and do the action steps that you write down. Never give up, because everyone deserves to have everything they want. Think of how much better the world could be if every single person knew what they wanted to do and were doing something that they loved to do!
