How to choose the best website hosting company for your needs
Which features are actually important when choosing a web hosting provider?

Many of us try to figure out what will be the best way to go when we are setting up a new website, should we find a company to help us do so, find an outsider to take off all the pressure or give it a shot ourselves. It can be time consuming and quite overwhelming. Many will just say forget it and not worry about setting up a website at all.  Well, don’t fret, life is getting a bit simpler and more inexpensive. Now with the rising costs of many things, its nice to know that some companies out there are actually trying to help the little fella and fillies out. If you are looking to set up a new website, there are quite a few options out there for you, as many have found out.  Here are a few to take a look at and to consider. When you are ready to set up your new website, there are a few things to consider.

Be sure to ask yourselves several questions.

1) Does this company have software to help build my new site?

2) Do they offer additional services, e-mail, domain names, certifications?

3) Does this company help to promote safety through the internet?

4) Does this company have a customer service center that is ready to help?

5) Are they reliable? You will probably want to set up a running list of all the different sites that you review that help to promote setting up websites, domains, etc.  That way you can sit and take a look a bit later at what each site has to offer you. Let’s get started.  One site that shows that they have a lot of help and respect for us little folk, is a company called "Godaddy"  This company has all the bells and whistles that you can possibly imagine at reasonable prices.  Mind you, if you want to find out what the prices are, you are best off visiting the sites for yourself.  We want to give you the basics and help to get you going from there.

Information on GoDaddy

1) Ability to help you create your site through site builders you can choose how and what you want to use for this. From a do-it-yourself format or from help through GoDaddy.

2) The ability to purchase a domain name at a very low price.  Once you choose a domain name, you can check to see if it is available.  You enter the information and the software will check the web to make sure that no one else has chosen the name you wish to have.  You will even receive a few suggestions to help you out.

3) Would you like to have e-mail established with your site?  Would you like to have it all in one package, you can get it through this site.

4) Customer Service.  If you have any questions or issues, they actually have people you can talk to, how many companies offer that.  Not many.  Rather you end up having to e-mail and then wait for ever to get any kind of questions answered which is a pain, especially if it is a simple question that needs to be answered. Now let’s take a look at a few other companies.

Information on Yahoo! Small Business

I didn’t know they offered this service.  Figured it would be a good idea to find out what the "big guns" have to offer.

1) Provides you with templates you can use to create your site.  This can actually hurt you more than help you, especially if you have something different in mind.  You might not like this feature.  They do provide step by step instructions and try and walk you through what you need to do to create your website.

2) Domain names are reasonably priced, although there are others that do charge less.  Given that "Yahoo" is a product name that many have used for a very long time, this may make people feel better protected.

3) Business e-mail, sorry folks but if you choose to use this they do slap you with a large monthly cost for storage etc.  You are better off going with a free account through them if you have to.

4) Customer service, this is a joke, I wrote in a simple question and well, I am still waiting for a response, mind you I sent off my question yesterday and still haven’t heard back from the customer service department.  If you are like many of us and you don’t wish to wait for a response and would like to find out now, this may leave you feeling like another number.  Don’t you just hate that.

Mydomain looks to be another company that is willing to help out the little business owner in some aspects, but again, there are a few things that are questionable and you might not want to deal with them.

1) When it comes to designing your site, this company is big on you using their services, although they will allow you to create and do what you might need to do should you be able to do it on your own.  They offer a lot of free applications although, if you go with their basic service you only have a set amount that you can use, if you want extra, they will slap you with a higher price.

2) Domain names are at a reasonable price for purchase. Right now, it looks like they are running a special if you purchase a web package, they give you the domain name for free.  This can save you a little money, then again, you might want to get the calculator out and total it for yourself.

3) E-mail, is low in price, however, in order to get a low price, you will have to purchase another feature through the site. So again, way your odds and see if it is worth it to you.

4) Customer support, they care a bit more, offering you the opportunity to talk to a person on the telephone and not have to wait.  In this writer’s opinion it is nice when you get a voice on the other end of the telephone and not some recording telling you to push buttons.

Here are a few other companies you might want to consider, remember make sure you ask the same questions for each one, this will help you to make the best decision for you and your company. iPowerWeb, HostGator, BlueHost, Lunarpages, StartLogic, and thousands more.  The few listed above and in the list are just the tip of the iceberg.  However, the ones listed are ones that come highly recommended.  If you have friends that do web business, ask them, find out what they use and how they feel about the company they chose.  This will also help you in your decision. Remember it all depends on exactly what you are looking for when you are ready to create a web site, either for your business or for yourself, make sure you look at everything there is offered and be selective, it is all right.  If you don’t choose the little guys to help you and choose to take on a big company, remember price can be an issue for many people trying to get started. So, consider how much you are willing to spend when you go into your venture. Good luck to all!

Great job! Is this piece for sale? As in, you keep the rights to publish it, but I can get it published elsewhere as well, without infringing on your copy rights? Let me know. And, if this is in response to the deal I offered you, pleas post a link to this Factoid in the discussion we have going under the question. But, I like that you posted it first. This may be a more organized way of doing it. The comments are jumping out of order at the other (question) page. Again, awesome job!

Hey Kd, I thought it best to post it so that you were aware that it was ready. Just wanted to make sure you got it, I saw that questions were going crazy so, by all means how ever you want/need to do this, I'm good. Let me know, if this works for the response, I wanted to just keep it from the mix so that you don't get confused any more. Carrie

Hi Carrie! For some reason I wasn't "following" you, so I wasn't notified when you posted this. I forget how I found it. I corrected that now. I asked for Factoid Adimin's help on organizing this thing. You are right, it isn't really working out in the question / answer forum. I like that you posted it. It makes it much less confusing. I need your email to send the money through PayPal. Do you want to do two more, and I'll pay you for the batch of three? (btw, no rush on the other two) Thanks! -Kevin
