With Halloween a few months away, many people will be getting prepared with all their Halloween decorations, costumes, party ideas, and even Halloween smells for their homes. I know that may sound strange to some, but there are certain smells that always remind me of Halloween like fresh pumpkin pie baking in the oven, fresh crisp fall air, candy corn, cinnamon candles burning, and of course my favorite smell for Halloween is chocolate; nothing beats the great smell of a Halloween pumpkin filled with lots of great chocolate when the kids come home. How can you get your home to smell like Halloween?

It all depends on the smells you like and associate with Halloween. Some people may actually like the nasty smell of the plastic Halloween masks, the smell of wet damp leaves, the seasonal smell of fresh-roasted pumpkin seeds, or scented candles in "flavors" you associate with the holiday. You can create any smell for Halloween as long as you are creative, but make sure whatever smell you choose, that you like it (and hopefully it won’t be offensive to others). Halloween is a great holiday for spicy smells like a nice warm spicy punch or hot apple cider to make your entire home smell delightful along with a nice spicy carrot cake baking in the oven. This smell will fill up your home with a very nice and powerful aroma. When people knock at your door, the scent will make them feel warm inside and feel the spirit of Halloween.

If you need the quickest way to make your home smell like Halloween, buy some Bath and Body Works fragranced Yankee candles. These candles come in many different scents. Around Halloween I would suggest using the Amber Musk, Apple Jack Apricot, Candy Corn, Cedar Wood, China Rain, Fireside, Hot Buttered Rum, Christmas Cheer, Cinnamon stick, Crushed Ginger, Fresh Baked Bread, Granny’s Pie Crust, and Granny Apple. Each candle costs around $13.00. If you want the oli-based fragrance instead, the price will be the same. The samplers are $5.00 and the big ones are 22 ounces and cost $24.99. It may be high for some people to afford, but these Yankee candles really do last long and the fragrances are quite strong; you probably won’t need more than one. With each Halloween scent you should get at least 130-150 hours worth of burning.

Other smells you might enjoy are burning matches, the smell of apples, roasted marshmallows, unscented candles burning in pumpkins, or Halloween- scented air fresheners. Another way to create an awesome scent for Halloween is to make your own Halloween-scented balls and place them into a bowl. Halloween scented balls can be made by using a spicy essential oil along with warm water, orange and green food coloring, flour, and salt; work into a doughy texture, form balls and allow to dry. This is not only a great way to make your home smell good, but also a very fun and easy Halloween craft for kids to enjoy.
