Fast Food and Obesity: linked in threatening our health
Healthy Dog Food - A Checklist of What to Look For
What are the healthiest and unhealthiest fast food choices?
Nutritional information may or may not be posted at many fast-food restaurants, but it is normally available online or by request from the company.
You’ll be able to eat healthier food at fast food places by following these tips:
- Order grilled food rather than breaded or fried.
- Avoid or limit toppings, such as cheese, bacon, or crispy noodles or croutons.
- Hold the mayo and high-calorie salad dressings. Ask for mustard on sandwiches or a reduced-fat dressing on salads. Also ask for dressing on the side and use sparingly.
- Control portion size: Choose the smallest burger or sandwich or share a larger one.
- What foods to order: Grilled chicken, salads, yogurt parfaits, juice, veggie burgers, chicken, bean or steak burrito, pintos and cheese, turkey on wheat roll sub, thin crust pizza (which means fewer calories and fewer carbohydrates), greens, corn on the cob, potato wedges, regular roast beef sandwiches.
- If you must splurge and get some dessert think portion control. Order small when it comes to ice cream, shakes, frosties, donuts and yogurt that is packed with sugar.
Go ahead and eat at whichever fast food place you want, but just stop and think about what you order and the choices you make about the food you consume. Remember that our choices count!
