In a world of synthesized medications and doctors so quick to prescribe drugs to help what is ailing, I can’t help but ask myself if this is truly the direction I want to go. Drugs for depression, for attention deficit disorder, bi-polar disorder, lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, so on and so forth; and with all sorts of different side affects to go along with them. You almost accept the fact that you have no power to do anything, so you just accept what these drugs are going to do for you. It doesn’t need to be this way. You do have a choice of what you put in your body. If you already are telling yourself that you can’t, its pretty much over. You have already given up.

Just think about the potential every plant might have towards offering beneficial substances, for the aiding and healing of your body. Herbs for relaxation, herbs that help stimulate the immune system, herbs that help fight infection, that increase blood flow to the brain, that help depression, and many plants and herbs that are full of vitamins. The variety of plants that are around almost seem limitless.  Its almost like a "goodie-bag" full of plant goodness.

Before we get started, let me inform you that I will only mention a very small number of plants, because let’s be honest, if I was to try and tell you about what every plant can do, I would be here forever. It is the choice of the reader of this article to fully investigate and to do more research to get a more and complete understanding of herbology. I am just expressing my views and my own experiences; you need to come to your own conclusions.

DEPRESSION: St. Johns Wort and Licorice both work similarly to a synthesized anti-depressant drug; it often takes more than a month to start feeling their anti-depressant effects.

STRESS: Chamomile and Peppermint  help with stress that affects your digestive system, while Feverfew and Willow bark are able to help with stress-related migraines. Also, Chamomile as well as lavender have soothing and calming effects.

REDUCING BLOOD PRESSURE: Rauwolfia has been said to be the most potent herb in lowering blood pressure; Mistletoe not being as potent. Hawthorne helps dilate bloodvessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure.

INCREASING INTELLIGENCE: Ginkgo Biloba and Gotu Kola  both increase blood flow to the brain. Ginsing  has the ability to increase physical and mental performance.

FIGHTING INFECTION AND BOOSTING IMMUNE SYSTEM: Aloe Vera, Golden Seal, Echinacea, Burdock, Astragalus, Golden Rod, Fennel, Garlic, Feverfew.

On the Internet, research all your spices. Research all the weeds that you see grow out in nature. Research all the plants that are able to grow in your climate zone. Do some research and find out more on plants’ potential.

Fascinating article! I believe herbs have more health benefits than most people realize... I have done some reading on my own. I think some can even help in fighting cancer. Nice job...

Some very interesting information. Many drugs were originally derived from plants, but I think that many people still underestimate the power of these plants and herbs.
