Dry skin is a skin problem that is common among both men and women. For some, it is a problem they have since birth, while for most of us, this skin condition occurs during the winter season. One of the reasons why people have dry skin: causes and treatment.

Dry Skin Treatment

There are certain important steps that you have to follow to cure as well as prevent your skin from becoming dry. These dry skin remedies are not expensive, rather these are some simple changes that you have to make in your daily routine and you will surely see a difference in your skin.

  • Most of us love to take bath in hot water as it helps us in relaxing after a long tiring day. However, experts are of the opinion that hot water is actually bad for our skin and hence should be avoided. Hot water has the ability to take off the natural oils as well as the moisture from the skin, making it dry and scaly. Therefore, one must only use lukewarm water for taking bath and the showering or bathing time should not exceed more than 10-15 minutes. It is also recommended to use mineral water instead of tap water to wash the face.
  • After taking a bath, most of us have the habit of rubbing ourselves with a towel to dry ourselves. However, this practice has to be avoided as there are more chances of the skin losing its moisture and becoming more dry. Instead, just pat yourself dry, after a shower as this will save the skin from what is known as ‘towel abuse’ and moreover, it does not allow the skin to lose its moisture.
  • Moisturizing regularly is one of the most important dry skin remedies. It is said that moisturizer is most effective when it is applied soon after getting out of the shower. You do not have to fully dry yourselves, rather just gently pat your body with a towel and apply the moisturizer all over it. Whatever moisturizer you choose, be it oil, lotion or butter, make sure you never miss this step.
  • Like adults, even babies suffer from the problem of dry skin during the initial days and hence, it is important to know about the dry skin remedies for babies. Apart from the above instructions, it is also important to take some other precautions to avoid harming the baby’s sensitive skin. Never use soap on the baby while giving him a bath, rather use a soap free cleanser that does not contain harsh chemicals. While washing baby’s clothes, avoid using detergents or laundry soaps that you usually use, instead make use of tea tree oil and baking soda. Avoid nylon and woolen clothes for your baby, instead stick to loose fitting cotton clothes for the child.
  • Men often experience dry skin after shaving and the most common cause of it is the use of an inexpensive shaving cream. Hence, men should only use a shaving cream that has moisturizer in it to prevent the skin from becoming dry. While buying a shaving cream, they should look for one that has ingredients, like, essential oils and avoid those that have alcohol content in them.

Dry Skin Home Remedies

Products available for dry skin are actually very expensive and not everyone can afford it. However, there are certain home remedies for dry skin that can be made very easily with the things found at home. Let us have a look at the natural remedies for dry skin.

  • In a mixing bowl, make a puree by mixing peach, 1 mashed papaya and a mashed banana too. Apply this puree mixture on the dry areas of the skin. Wait for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it. This is one of the best dry skin remedies for face. Baking soda which is easily available in almost every house is also one of the remedies for dry skin. Take one quart water, add 4 tbsp of baking soda and bathe in it to avoid having dry skin.
  • Take egg yolk in a mixing bowl, add 1 tsp olive oil, 2-3 drops of lime juice and rose water, 1 teaspoon of orange juice to it. Apply this mixture fifteen minutes before taking a shower and this will surely help you in getting rid of dry skin.
  • One of the best dry skin remedies is using a paste made with 1 tsp of raw honey and 1 tsp of green clay powder. This has to be applied on the dry skin areas and washed off after 20 minutes in lukewarm water. Substituting green clay powder with cooked oatmeal can also help in treating dry skin in an effective way.
  • One of the most beneficial dry skin remedies at home that you can use is by making a face pack yourself. You have to mix together beaten curd, almond oil, rose water, olive oil and honey to make the face pack and apply it on the dry skin areas, especially on the face.
