As professional home stagers we know the what and the how, but do you? When I ask someone if they’ve heard of home staging, they look at me, politely smile, and shake their head no.

What is Home Staging?  While relatively a new term in some areas, home staging has been around since the mid 70’s.  At least thats what the experts say. But I think it’s been around for a little longer. Home Staging is basically making a home look like a Model Home, and Model Homes have been around as long as I can remember. I looked at model homes with my parents as a little girl, and still remember most of the homes, one had a man-made stream through the main living area with a bridge over it. They accomplished their goal, it certainly made a lasting impression, and I begged my parents to buy it. My parents, however were not as impressed. Today, the only difference is home stagers use the homeowners existing furnishings and accessories and rearrange them, or bring in furniture and accessories making the room appear bigger, brighter, and have a better traffic flow. Thus, giving it that “Model Home Look”.

Can anyone stage a home? Well, it appears a lot of people certainly think they can. It takes much more than a few cans of paint, and trimming your hedges for your home to be staged. You absolutely have to have a designer eye to put a room together beautifully. Bluntly, you either have it or you don’t!

Why would you hire a home stager?  The same reason you use an accountant, electrician, or hairdresser. Simply put, it is a service that you need someone else to provide so that it will be professionally done without mistakes.

The ultimate goal is to place the home in it’s best showcase condition, so that it sells at the highest possible price in the shortest possible time. You also want your home to appeal to the widest possible range of people that could be viewing your home, and you want potential buyers to visualize the lifestyle they could have if they buy your home.

Appearance is Everything by having your home professionally staged, you transform your house into a ” hot property” edging out your competition. Making a first and lasting impression.

Very interesting concept, Cindy. I've been involved in the building trades for over 40 years and this was the first that I ver heard the term used. I think that it's a good concept and can see where sepersonalizing a home could make it sell faster. I took a quick look at your web site and will give it a closer look when I have a few minutes to spare. I lived and worked in the Houston area some 30 years ago and I loved it there.
