Why homemade bath salts are better than store bought

Beauty benefits of using epsom salts

I love receiving bath products as gifts. Those beautiful baskets of delightful smelling soaps, salts, lotions, butters, creams, oils … Well, I could go on forever, but I have to get to the point eventually. And that point is that I go through my gift baskets like nobody’s business, and then I’m sad that I have no special bath treats to look forward to. I don’t feel like they’re something I should purchase for myself on a regular basis, due to the exorbitant prices.

And due to the fact that I can make them myself. Bath salts happen to be my specialty, and come birthday time, my friends are all asking me for a gift of my homemade bath salts.

Now, the fun thing about bath salts are the wide variety of things you can do to make them different. They can be made in a wide variety of colors, scents and textures, using different kinds of salt. Be sure that when you are buying essential oils to scent your bath salt, that you are choosing ones that are skin safe. Some essential oils are intended just to scent a room, and not your body.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 cups epsom salt, dead, fine or coarse sea salt
  • Essential oils of your choosing, approx 10 to 20 drops
  • Food colorant, paste or drops, in preferred colors
  • Pretty glass jars or containers to hold bath salt

Method:

  • Stir ingredients together.
  • Pour into glass jars or containers.
  • Add a ribbon or wrap if it’s a gift.

It really is that easy! The reason why I made the ingredients so variable is because you will probably find you enjoy different amounts with different scents, or if you want to combine different salts to achieve a new texture, then that’s fine too. The great thing about this recipe is that it’s perfect for experimenting. It also makes a great gift for many occasions. A set of several bath salts and a beautiful candle make a gift any woman, or metro sexual man who enjoys a luxurious bath, would love. Pair the bath salts with a massage lotion, satchel of rose petals, Kama Sutra or Tantra book for a young newlywed couple to take on their honeymoon. Wrap them up with a decadent robe, for a pricier gift with a personal touch. Or keep it for yourself - I can’t blame you if you do.

People love receiving homemade gifts - as long as they’re nice, anyways.
