According to the experts, over 1500 different species of animals have exhibited homosexual behavior. Personally I never gave this subject much thought until some of my cats (I have seven of them, all of which except for one are related by blood) started exhibiting homosexual tendencies. These displays of affection didn’t upset me but they did pique my curiosity so I started to do some in depth research on the subject of homosexual behavior in the animal kingdom. Some of the things that I discovered really surprised me and I will share some of those discoveries with you here.
Many people consider homosexual behavior as being abnormal or unnatural, but are homosexual behavior really abnormal or unnatural? Certainly, from a Judeo-Christian perspective it’s abnormal and unnatural. Christians quote Leviticus Chapter 18 Verse 22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. They point out Romans Chapter 1 verses 26 and 27 that read, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” They point out that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorra because of this homosexual conduct. From the naturalist’s point of view, on the other hand, homosexuality is quite normal.
The Bonobo Chimpanzees, one of our closest relatives, are bisexual and often use homosexuality as a way to resolve conflicts. They believe, like many of us did during the hippie era, in “making love, not war”. Among the Bonobo, roughly 66 percent of all homosexual activity is among the females. Female macaques form strong bonds with one another and are monogamists.
According to an article published in Medical Science News, male lions, the King of Beasts, often band together to lead their pride and they use homosexual behavior to strengthen those bonds. They make love to show and strengthen their loyalty to one another. The same article goes on to point out that heterosexual mating between dolphins and killer whales is a brief experience while homosexual mating between a pair of male killer whale can last for years.
Petter Bockman regrets that there is too little research about homosexuality among animals. “The theme has long been taboo. The problem is that researchers have not seen for themselves that the phenomenon exists or they have been confused when observing homosexual behaviour or that they are fearful of being ridiculed by their colleagues. Many therefore overlook the abundance of material that is found. Many researchers have described homosexuality as something altogether different from sex. They must realise that animals can have sex with who they will, when they will and without consideration to a researcher’s ethical principles (Medical Science News, 2006).” A good example of the overlooked and/or missed behavior that Petter spoke of is the mating behavior of the Giraffes where 90 percent occurs between male Giraffes.
Darwinist believe that animals only have sex to procreate but many experts through their unbiased observations have proved them wrong. Many animals not only spend their entire lives in same sex relationships, they masturbate for simple pleasure as well. According to Petter Bockman of the Norwegian Museum of Natural History, the Orangutans even make dildos out of tree wood and bark.
