The pantry is a wonderful storehouse for a wealth of foods and condiments, perfect for any meal.  But There are also several beauty and wellness alternatives among them.  My favorites I have mentioned before are vinegar and baking soda, but next in line is honey.

You can purchase honey just about anywhere, and use it at room temperature or by warming it up.  It tastes good plain, or when added to foods or drinks.  Choose from clover, wildflower, or other varieties mentioned on The Nibble.  I like purchasing honey from Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or local farms.  The benefits of consuming honey on a daily basis include:

  • Natural hayfever remedy.  Particularly with honey that is harvested locally, such honey contains the pollen found in your area that is the cause of your allergy symptoms.  By ingesting local honey, you build up an immunity to the allergens, eliminating hayfever without the use of antihistamines!
  • Soothe a sore throat or quell a cough.  The honey will coat your throat and speed up the healing process.  Mix honey in tea or a cup of warm water, and add a squeeze of lemon if desired.  This will help boost your body back to health and banish dry, night coughing fits.
  • Soften and cleanse skin.  Apply honey in a thin layer to your skin, then rinse.  The properties in the honey will reduce skin redness and make it supple.
  • Sleep and metabolism aide.  If taken at bed time, honey induces sleep and boosts your metabolism.  While you sleep, you have ample time to burn off fat.

Of course, if you are allergic to honey itself, I would not recommend ingesting it or applying it to your skin.  But I can attest to the potency found in honey, as I have used it for all of the above remedies, and know people who have done so successfully for years.  In my case, consuming honey nightly relaxes me and allows me to sleep well, and I have burned 1 lb of fat in just two weeks!  It also is wonderful at stopping me from having a dry cough at night, which was something I used to get every time my hayfever acted up.  That in itself is a huge accomplishment for me, since I have been prone to coughs for every time I get a sore throat, ever since I was a young child.

So go ahead, try some honey and share your testimonials on here in the morning!

We are fans of honey! We travel frequently to Italy and our nephew has quite a business of producing honey and I've seen it from the gathering of the bees to the manufacture and it is mind boggling. We put honey on everything we can instead of sugar. Although it is sugar, too, it is a healthier form than the processed stuff. I, too, buy the local honey because as you say, that is the one to use if you have allergies. It may cost a little more, but is worth the extra cents. (In today's life, it is extra dollars!) Good advice. Thanks for sharing. Marie :)

Hello there...I to am a big fan of honey even though the store prices continue to rise. I use to get the home made mason jars w/ the comb in it, from a friend. Haven't seen those in a spell. Thanks again Natasha for the advise. TY
