Charting Your Ovulation

Ovulation is defined in the dictionary as the ripening and discharge of an egg or eggs from the ovary for possible fertilization. Ovulation test kits are used to know whether your body has already reached the ovulation stage in the cycle that repeats monthly.

This test is very helpful for couples who are trying to get pregnant since they will be able to know when the wife’s body is releasing an egg from her ovary, thus knowing exactly when she is most fertile.

Knowing when exactly a woman is ovulating is a key to getting pregnant because the day before and the day after her ovulation are the two days when she is most likely to get pregnant.

If you and your husband are looking forward to having a baby, then you had better be making love during these two days.

The best time of the day for women to use their ovulation test kits is between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon and between 5 in the afternoon and 10 in the evening.

Conduct the test between these two periods to make sure you catch the surge of you luteinizing hormone or LH as this surge happens 24- 36 hours before you ovulate. This helps you calculate your ovulation date.

Once you have an LH surge, you have to have sex within 48 hours to have a greater chance of getting pregnant. When using ovulation test kits, know that the test result may be affected by your intake, if any, of some prescription drugs.

Some medical conditions may also affect your results. If you are nearing your menopausal stage, your test result may also be affected. Take note also that not all women have a regular menstrual cycle.

This means, not all ovulate every month, thus there may be no increase in LH level on some months. Keeping track of your ovulation cycle is vital.
