Save Energy - Save Money - Unplug It!

Yes, it is true that you can save energy and money by unplugging any appliances that are not in use, regardless of whether you are home or gone for the day, the week or the month. Taking the time to unplug any appliance will help to reduce the amount of energy you use and it will make a remarkable difference in your electric bill every month you practice unplugging any appliance that is not in immediate use.

How Do I Know This?

I read many years ago that you could drastically lower your electric bill by reducing the amount of energy that you use. It made a great deal of sense to me, especially when I read that any appliance that is merely plugged in. will suck energy or use energy.

The information I was reading I do not remember at this time, since it has been so long ago. However, my understanding of the material I was reading at that time made plain and perfect sense to me. It seems that regardless of whether or not you are actually using an appliance that it still uses energy. It doesn’t use as much energy as while it is actually working for you, however it is still using a small bit of energy by being plugged up to an active electrical outlet.

Even your small appliances use energy if they are plugged in, even if you are not using them at the time. For instance, that electric can opener, electric toaster, and electric coffee pot and so on, all those appliances are using energy while they are plugged in and not in actual use. When you leave anything plugged in and not in use, those appliances are eating away at your wallet. Little by little all those things you are not using but you leave plugged in actually increase your electric bill.

Test the Theory

I tested the theory as soon as I found and read the information concerning reducing that kind of energy use and the money that it takes to run them even while they are inactive. Within a months time I could see a big difference in the electrical power I was using and the money that I was literally wasting by having appliances conveniently plugged in for my use whenever I had a fancy to use something.

Remarkably, my electric bill went down by $80.00 on my next month’s energy use and electric bill. I was thrilled, it is something I practice for myself and preach to my family and friends. My mother’s home is an all-electrical home; everything is powered by electricity, as is my own. In comparison, sometimes my electric bill would be $100.00 less than her bill, simply because I did not leave anything I was not using plugged in to an electrical outlet. In fact, one of the best things about the home I was living in at the time was that the air-conditioner was plugged in to an outlet only for the air-conditioner. When I was not using the air-conditioner, I simply flipped the breaker for that outlet off while not in use, since it was on its own breaker with nothing else. It made a big difference in my electrical power use and the money I spent just having the current live and active to the air-conditioner.

Unplug It Now, If You Are Not Using It!

You do not have to take my word on the amount of energy and money you can save by unplugging any appliance that is not in use. Unplug it now, if you are not using it and see for yourself on your next electric power bill. Seriously, unplug that toaster; unplug that dishwasher, microwave, coffee pot, and all those games the kids play, turn off those lights you are not using and so on. You will see the difference and you will wonder why not everyone is unplugging to save energy and save money!

Other Energy Saving Tips

Do you know that if you have ceiling fans, they can help you save energy and money? It is true. When you have ceiling fans they can help reduce the amount of energy you use. Whether you are running your heating system or your cooling system, because they help keep the air flowing throughout the rooms you use them in, so be sure to include the use of ceiling fans to reduce the amount of energy that you heating and cooling systems use to keep your home comfortable.

Another great energy saving tip is to open the windows and use fans for cooling whenever possible. Fresh air is good for us and using the wind from an open window can reduce the amount of energy you use while the weather is nice.

Use ENERGY STAR appliances to help reduce the amount of energy that you use daily. Whether you are building a home, need a hot water heater, air-conditioner and so on, using Energy Star appliances can make a big difference in the amount of energy and money you use everyday.

Are you ready to see a remarkable difference in your monthly electric bill? Consider what else you can do when you can save as much as $80.00 to $100.00 and sometimes even more on your power bill. I know I have enjoyed having that extra money in my own pocket and you can too!
