History was re-invented on Nov. 4th 2008. A world wide acceptance has finally been granted for a man of color. His accomplishment alone can be considered as America’s version of the Berlin wall. As I speak with many of my friends who happen to be Caucasian, they can’t seem to understand why this is a big deal. They overlook the accomplishment that it took for this man with a name as controversial as his skin tone, to become the 44th president of this great and powerful country.
Many supporters chose this man, because we believe that he will enforce a change that this country desperately needs. I look forward to seeing what he can do not only as a black man, but as a black man who understands the American struggle. As children grow up fatherless each day, the support to succeed has become tougher as the years go by and he showed that America is a place where possibilities are possible.
He took the American Dream by gathering the core of America and convincing us that his methods and ideals were what America needed. As a Hispanic American who also dreams of the idea of once gracing the stage of the highest political platform, I have now been granted the opportunity.
Our newly appointed commander-in-chief has now set a standard for every American in this country. Ethnicity is no longer an issue when it comes to conformity. Freedom and the pursuit of the future is what the NEW America looks forward to.
While many of the news stations are trying to justify the past, by the achievement of one man I will not allow it. For years, racism has played a factor in many minorities’ lives, and although White American citizens will never truly understand this feeling of accomplishment, we as minorities can’t forget how this happened. While many of the people before us we’re criticized, ridiculed, killed, burned, and hung amongst other horrible experiences, we cannot forget but we must move forward.
If we forget, the past might find its way back. Now that Barack Obama has won the hearts and votes of many, the future is all we need to worry about. While Racism will probably continue, it’ll eventually dwindle. As many wept in joy many wept in hate, and the only thing left to do is focus on change.
I believe that good will come of this newly elected president, but it all starts with us as a people. Minorities cannot depend on the color of our president’s skin tone to justify who we are, Minorities cannot expect this election to change the American way, Minorities cannot allow this to change us from getting better.
Now that Barack Obama has been elected as the president of the United States of America, minorities will be looked at differently. We do have a voice, which has been heard. The so called “man” cannot hold us back anymore, because he is black. We as minorities must change the negativity around us. An uprising is in order, and I hope that Barack is the cause of positivity and equality in America .
I would like to give an appreciation to not only the youth movement and the minorities, who recently became registered to vote but the White Americans as well who made this happen. If it wasn’t for America as a whole, this accomplishment wouldn’t have occurred. Thank you.
Now that the election is over with, I hope that the youth continues to help reform this country, I hope that minorities will adjust their way of life and finally create a positive name for the color of our skins. This is the land of opportunity, freedom, respect, and now change. Congratulations President Barack Obama.
