How to Add Your Photographs to Factoidz That You Write

How to Market Your Photographs in 5 Easy Steps

Adding pictures to illustrate what you are writing about is one of the best ways that I know of to teach people new skills. This is especially true if you are writing how-to articles or creating tutorials for computer software programs or some other esoteric subject. As the Chinese proverb goes, one picture is worth ten thousand words. I will be using another method to illustrate this article, a Screen Capture technique but that’s a subject for another how-to factoid.

First, a warning, if you are like me and prepare all your factoids in Word and then copy and paste them into the Factoidz Editor you can insert your photos into the Word document so you’ll know which photos you want to use and where you want to use them in your actual factoid but they won’t copy over. You’ll have to insert them directly from the file into the Factoidz Editor using the photo upload tool. OK, here’s how we are going to do it.

Get organized. Set up a folder in your “Pictures Folder” or on your desktop to store all the pictures that you want to use in your factoids. You can create subfolders within that folder if you want to keep track of which photos you used in which factoid. I’m not going to go into detail of how to set up these photos because I’m assuming (yeah, I know that that’s a dangerous thing to do) you know how to this already. For this tutorial I have set up a folder within my “Pictures Folder” called “Factoid Pictures.”

Let’s take a look at the Factoidz Editor window.

The first thing that you will want to do is to maximize the editor window by clicking on the monitor screen button at the left end of the tool bar.

Next, we click on the “Insert/Edit Image” button, that little yellow colored button on the menu bar, the seventh button from the left end of the menu bar. This open the “Insert/Edit Image” dialog box.

In this dialog box left click on the “Upload” tab to open the next dialog box

In this dialog box click on “Browse” and navigate to where your photo is stored.

Double click on the picture you want to insert that opens the photo upload dialog box.

Left click “Send it to the Server” button. This uploads the photo to the Factoidz server and opens the next dialog box.

For Factoidz.Com you need to keep the width of your image to 700 pixels or less. Type 700 into the width box and the height automatically adjusts to keep the proper picture height to width ratio.

In this dialog box, you can use the scroll bars in the preview window to examine your picture before inserting it in your document. Once you are satisfied with the picture, click the “OK” button and the image will be inserted at the point where your “cursor” is placed. If you make a mistake in sizing your image part of it can be lost when uploading your article for previewing and publishing, so be sure to preview the article yourself before uploading.

There you have it, that’s how to add pictures to your articles on Factoidz.

Great information. I have done a lot of picture and graphic work mainly with the blogs I have associated with my factoidz articles. The two free programs I like to use the best for offline work with pictures if they need cropping or brightening etc are Photofiltre and Faststone Capture.

Hi Sam, I have several different screen capture programs running on my computers-SnapShot, ScreenCaturePrint, and SnipTool. The first two are freeware programs and the last one is part of the Windows VISTA operating system. I used SnipTool to put this tutorial together. I'll be doing a factoid on screen capture tools in another factoid.

@Martha: If you're like me, you are having your problem with moving the pictures around on the computer, i.e. you browse yourself crazy? Otherwise, you just put the cursor where you want the picture, and press the button. @ Jerry: Great job on this (as usual) I wanted to add a tip for those who do or want to start doing their articles the same way, writing in word, then pasting into FTZ editor (I do that too. I use Google Docs Word though): Change the doc to HTML when it is done. Click "Edit" (drop down) "HTML"... then copy. Go to factoidz editor and hit the "source" button, then paste. Click the source button again and it comes out plain text with all your links (that you did in word) in place.

Useful information. I have tried a couple of times to add photos and given up but I will try again, following your instructions.
