Being sick is not good any way you look at it.
Getting sick during the Winter is awful. If you have children you know how often they get off the school bus with that look on their face. You know the face, the red nose, the sniffles, coughing, etc.
The next thing you know, you’ve got the same symptoms because you are nursing your child with theirs. Next thing you know, everyone in the house has a cold or flu. You can use many antibiotics to help fight the infections associated with the cold, but it is unfortunate that we do not have anything to prevent the cold in the first place.
Make sure that at the beginning of the flu season that you get your vaccine shots. This is perhaps the best thing to do of date to help prevent getting the dreaded illness to begin with. It is also wise to ask your doctor about possible vaccinations to to fight against the "swine flu".
Make sure that you get the right amount of sleep during this time of year. Studies have shown that if you get seven or more hours of sleep, including naps, you are less likely to get the flu. The study also shows that if you get less sleep than seven hours, including tossing and turning often, you are more likely to catch a cold.
Keeping your feet warm is a huge help in fighting against getting a cold. If you are at home and resting, and it is chilly outside, it’s a great idea to get a nice, thick, warm pair of socks to put on your feet. When your feet are cold, your airways constrict, which allows those germs to race into your nostrils like the Daytona 500, so put on some socks or a nice, warm pair of slippers.
Another great idea for trying to keep the cold away is to scrub your hands with soap and sanitizer as often as you can. If you have to go to your local doctor or hospital, make sure that you carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you. There are so many sick people coming in and out of the doctor’s office or hospital that you can catch a lot of colds just from that… even if you don’t already have it. Wash your hands after you have been to the store and handling money. Germs are in a lot of places, so it is imperative that you scrub as often as you can.
