Isn’t it hard enough to spend hours in a dressing room, salon, or in your bathroom at home making yourself a knockout, but due to this strain on the economy, now we’re dealing with loss of funds to provide the fabulousness on which we live on. I am a mother, a fiancee, a working woman and I barely have the time to put myself together, but I DO. I do it because no matter what else is going on in my life, I need to feel good about myself. I need to feel great about who I am and what I look like. Do I believe that a great hair or make up day will fix all my problems? Of course not, but I might as well feel fabulous while I’m fighting for an account at work or glancing at myself after I’ve chased my son around for an hour and seeing I’m still glowing from my bronzer and the new teeth whitner is working. It sounds silly, I know, however, inner beauty immediately radiates to outer beauty. So in the struggling times, we need to find short cuts to be extra fabulous!
First off, your eyes tell your story. No one wants to look like a puffy, hot mess at 8 am. An easy and free trick, take two metal spoons, throw them in the freezer while your making coffee, eating, reading the paper, etc. and then put them over your eyes for a few minutes before you apply your make up and last nights martini’s are invisible from your face.
Next, you have to give your body what it needs so that it will give you what you need, which is, a healthy, youthful body that looks like a million bucks. A great fix are berries: strawberries, bluberries, or blackberries. These yummy fruits all contain antioxidants, which minimize damage to your skin and keep your body’s cells healthy and that means sexy, healthy, summer time skin.
Now that we’ve figured out how to save our eyes from a long night of much needed drinks and how to keep our skin looking like it did when we were 16, ( I should specify, I meant MY skin at 16, flawless, I was lucky, not a blemish ever-never had to wear foundation or powder, I was blessed) we need to cover good exercise. No one can be fabulous when they are unhealthy. One of the best and most recomended forms of exercise is walking. You can do it anywhere, change up your rountine by adding more uphill walking (be prepared for a great behind) or use 2-5lb free weights to carry with you to give you summer ready arms and shoulders. Walking does actually burn as many calories as running, you just get to the finish line quicker running. A 150 lb man will burn 100 calories a mile, a 200 lb man will burn 133, and it takes about 3,500 calories to equal one pound, so getting in shape and being healthy needs to start now, we’ve only got a few months before summer.
Last, but certainly not least, is dressing the part. Whether you are attending soccer games or board meetings, you need to be the best dressed. I love labels, I do. I see a big D&G buckle or a beautiful pair of Manolo Blahnik’s and my knees get weak, my heart races, the only fix is to have. To have and to hold and to wear. Of course I don’t pay full price, who can these days! The secret is to finding those great online stores that buy from the manufacturer and get the authentic labels and brands we all love but can sell for a cheaper price. Check out www.editorscloset.com, and one of my personal favs, www.bluefly.com. If you’re worried about sizing or color issues, it may be best to keep an eye out for great sales at department stores.
Always remember that no matter how hard you are struggling or how awful life may seem at this very moment, you are an incredible woman and nothing can change that but YOU. Confidence rings higher than all else when bringing beauty to the outside. Half of a knockout is looks, the other half is personality & charcter. Know who you are, be proud and strut, strut, strut.
