Fashion by the Stars: Astrological Fall Fashion Forecast

Fall Fashion Redux: means bringing back the past. When talking about fashion, it’s always good to use a French word, don’t you think? Well, this  psychic fashion astrologer has a handy guide below for each Sun Sign - listing accessories, colors or garments you might want to wear this Fall-into-Winter. Not only am I guided by intuition, but also by This Recession (as I call it). So check the list below for your Ms. SY’s Guide to Fashion by the Stars.

We begin with women:

Aries: Red is just too tomato soupy for you this fall, dear Aries. I DID see rather a lot of red on the movie stars at a recent award show and I thought they looked a bit tarty (but that is strictly an opinion). Red is so over-done for Aries, anyway. It’s time to move over to a nice Camel-color (a la 1950’s) on the top or as a coat, and wear it with a lovely green of your choice. Green is the opposite of red on the color wheel, so it makes a sort of sense (colorist sense, anyway).  If you can find a vintage camel coat or blazer, in decent shape, you will be on your way to getting off the boring Aries-red treadmill.

Taurus: It’s all about the purse for you this Fall, dear Taurus. You have tended to carry the same-old bag for too many years to count on all fingers. It may have once been Italian leather you found on sale at TJ Maxx, but that is so over, because it’s too worn. I recommend scouting out a new or new-to-you bag that appeals to you on some place like good, old reliable eBay. There are so many bargains in purses today on that site. I intuit that Taurus likes a small satchel, and that is fine for 2009. No more suitcase purses - This Recession is all about understatement (at least in most places). For women, a great purse is a defining moment.

Gemini: I see your hairstyle as an important fashion redux-redo this Fall, dear Gemini. If it’s too short to style and cut, think about highlights or low-lights or a richer color. Gemini is usually far too busy with this-and-that to think about what’s fashionable, but your face has grown a little sallow and pale (perhaps your down mood has created that image). A different hair color will brighten both you and your life. I recommend a touch of copper.

Cancer/Moonchild:  Blue is your color this Autumn, Moonchild. And not the regular old blue you find in a crayon box. The kind of blue that makes you think of sapphires or Lapis:  blue for wisdom. Just like a slip that’s a bit too long, your wisdom is showing this Fall, dear Moonchild. In fact, out of all the Signs in the Zodiac, your Astrology archetype is flashing nurturing compassion and depth (blue). Most of us could use some of THAT good TLC. How about a blue Fall/Winter coat or jacket to enhance your soothing powers?

Leo: Autumn brings out the color best in you, dear Leo -  brown is your primary color, this Fall. And Wool and Cashmere suit you well! You might want to clear your closet and donate or give away all those very 1990 Logo-heavy blazers. I don’t think most people care today about the Ralph Lauren logo or the Burberry-plaid braggadocio. Combine your brown with other luscious browns - going Mono is a fashion statement all on its own. Some people think of brown as mundane, but, these people just don’t know they have many luscious brown choices - from coffee to caramel to mocha (I did say luscious, didn’t I?).

Virgo: Scarves are your calling-card this Autumn, dear Virgo. From Hermes to Vera, you will find a dozen different ways to scarf-yourself:  from the simple around-the-neck, to the scarf belt, to the scarf hanging from your handbag. As you know, vintage scarves are delicious and delovely, and you can find many on the Internet auction sites. No matter what, search for the hand-rolled silk or silky rayon - in an array of colors and designs.  And "scarf" the best ones right up!

Libra: Still a sterling silver collector and right now you can find some of the best bargains in jewelry - from Internet auctions to jewelry stores to sites like the fun and fabulous Etsy. I see you in silver this Fall, combined with warm stones - like topaz or garnets. The best choice will be Rings mainly, although a collection of unique vintage sterling silver bracelets might be the perfect fashion statement for your refined taste. Not many people can wear jewelry like you can, Libra. Jewelry is just another symbol of your refined elegance, this Fall and beyond.

Scorpio: Paint it black, as the old song goes. I see you dressing down, but Autumn,  but only in the best black clothing you can afford. That would include black cashmere (2 ply or more) and 100% wool, made in Italy, France or the U.S.A. Vintage again is a preference for you, dear Scorp, but you may be only searching for the upscale designer brands - YSL, Dior, Chanel. You would rather have a few fine articles of black clothing than a pile of polyester garments, and I salute you for that.

Sagittarius: This fun sign is going all out for a little fun this Fall - and in terms of fashion, that could include stunning vintage brooches from Weiss or Trifari, or vintage original rock n roll pins, found on the Internet, and worn in a cluster on a vest or a hat. Pins are a sign you wear to show you take life seriously, but not all THAT seriously. Your role model could be former U.S.Sec. of State, Madeline Albright who always sports a fabulous pin, every time I see her on TV. She may be all business, but she also knows her pins, and so do you. Fun to find, but even more fun to wear.

Capricorn: You are not much for adornment or accessories, dear Cap. In fact, you generally don’t care much  about fashion. Still, you manage to dress nicely in a tailored or unassuming way. This Fall, you may find yourself seriously hung up on earrings. There are some very cool earrings to be found - again, mainly on the Internet on sites like eBay and Etsy. Etsy offers both vintage and hand-made items. eBay is a costume-jewelry lover’s dream now, bargains galore. I have listed and sold souvenir vintage earrings from France (Eiffel Towers), Spain (matadors) and Japan (Buddhas) in the past. I think earrings like these (they would require conversion to pierced, if you want) are more appealing to you than rhinestones or flash. You may find it fun diversion, dear Cap, to hunt for these charming earrings - on the Internet or in real life, at estate sales or antique stores.

Aquarius: Shoes! In one word, if you are going for fashion, it will be from the bottom up, and that includes quality shoes that offer the best in comfort, support and design. You don’t care for high heels, all that much, but you do care about good taste. We are unlikely to see you, dear Aquarius, in graffiti-splattered canvas shoes. I expect you will find your Autumn shoes online or at a quality department store or shoe company store, like Coach outlet, near me. You know that good shoes not only say a lot about you as a person, they are an absolute necessity for your feet.

Pisces: Because you are so sensitive (and that includes your skin), you like to wear high-quality cotton that doesn’t irritate you (like wool can). This Autumn, you will be looking for top quality in clothing; the fabric will be more important to you than a so-called fashion statement. I know you don’t like flashy colors and you don’t much care for black either. I see you in a lot of grey this Autumn - a nice neutral that you can spice up with your favorite jewelry, scarf, or belt. You, and those who know you best, dear Pisces, realize that inside you are a kaleidoscope of colors so it doesn’t really matter if all you wear outside are shades of grey.

And end with men:

Men’s clothing, as a fashion statement, is pretty much making a comeback this Fall. I am getting the retro, skinny-tie Mad Men vibe, pretty much all across the Zodiac board. That means you can donate your cotton pullover sweaters and your Zegna wide ties (I know it hurts, but still . . . .) For all Signs, it’s about hats - like Justin Timberlake or Frank Sinatra - and skinny ties, as mentioned above. Vintage suede-patched sweaters and jackets are also Hot!  Scout the thrift stores and eBay for the best prices on the skinniest of ties and the most original retro Men’s wear. If you have to wear something, you might as well use fashion this Fall to bring out your inner Sinatra.

As always, Astrology is a guide, not a road-map. This Autumn, recycle and re-do, and you will be making an indelible fashion statement that shows you care more about the planet than merely looking good.
