How to create your own Christmas ornaments

Create you own Christmas ornaments!

Materials:

  • Round Clear Christmas Ornaments - Available at Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc.
  • Acrylic Paint and Brushes- As many colors as you want! Available at Walmart or any hobby/craft store.
  • “Glitterglue” - Small bottle of glitter mixed with glue with a pointed spout. Available at any craft store
  • Various decorations such as stars, stickers, cotton balls, etc

Instructions:

Begin by laying out your materials on a clean, dry table with plenty of working space. You should remove anything important from the area since the glitter tends to get everywhere! Laying down some newspaper to work on might be a good idea as well.

Fill a plastic cup with warm water, then gather around the table and dish out the ornaments! You can squeeze out a small amount of paint on a paper plate or on the newspaper if you used it. When it comes to paint, keep in mind that a little paint goes a long way. Using large amounts only wastes paint and you may end up with a calico colored kitchen by the time you’re done.

With ornament in hand, dip your brush in your desired color and begin coving the outside of the bulb with a thin layer of your favorite color of paint. Holding the bulb by the metal hanger can help to keep your hands clean. Remember, acrylic paint dries fast, so a thick layer of paint isn’t neccessary. When the paint is mostly dry, go ahead and add another coat.

Now, creativity is the key here. Use the paint to customize your ornament in your favorite style, be it blue stripes, purple circles, or pink polkadots! Before changing colors, dip your brush into the cup of water and clean off the excess paint. Make sure you use christmas colors on your ornament!

Next comes the glitter glue. Remove the cap from your bottle of glue and safely cut a small hole in the tip of the spout. Now use the glue to draw your name on the front of the ornament, this way anyone can know who the artist is!

Drawing designs with your glue, such as mistletoe, icicles, and stars, can really make your ornament stand out. Use your extra decorations to add some style and personality to your bulb. Now find a safe place to leave your ornament to dry, and the next day it will be ready for the tree! With a little care, this wonderful little decoration will last for years to come!
