Christmas is a fun time of the year. We all love to decorate, and make our homes beautiful. The cost of most decorations are extremely hi, and most of us are on a tight budget. There are options to decorate in your home without spending a fortune.

Before you buy anything, go through all of your decorations to see what you have. Do no throw anything away you may need these items for tips later in the article. Decide on a theme you would like to use for this years Christmas festivities. You will work everything around your theme.

Deciding a theme will also help you stop purchasing item you will not be using.

Things you can make at home:

* Use branches, leaves or pine cones you find around your neighborhood. You may also want to take a short drive to a wooded area. You can find great things to assist in your decorating, and it will only cost for your gas.

* Cut bright colored construction paper into shapes. You will then put glue on either side, and glitter.

* Cut old pieces of fabric into shapes and hang with yarn. You can be a little more creative as well. Use a hole punch to make a few holes in two of the same shapes. Put cotton, or paper inside for filling. Then sew together with pieces of yarn.

* Make use of your glass jars. It could be jelly, mayo, or any other glass jar. Clean well, and remove any labels. Tie a colorful ribbon around the jar, and place a small candle inside. Instant Christmas decoration, with little or no money.

* Buy plain bears from yard sales, or thrift shops. Wash them if they need it. If they just need a little refreshing, you can place them in the dryer for a few minutes. They smell even better if you use a softener sheet. You can then use the bears as decorations. Just tie ribbons or bows on them, and place them around your home.

* Take your picture frames off the wall and wrap them with colorful Christmas paper. Use any that is left over from the previous year. After you wrap them, hang them back on the wall.

* Wrap old cardboard boxes with wrapping paper. You can place these boxes around your home for a festive feel.

* Get a few wine glasses the you have put away. Tie a ribbon around the stem. This makes a great decoration for your table.

* Go back to old traditions. Pop some popcorn, and string it. Kids love doing this.

* Get a large bowel or basket and place large decorations inside. Use as a center piece, or put at your entry way.

If you still have to purchase items be sure to shop around. Check yard sales, or thrift shops for great buys. You can also watch your sales papers for special prices on items you need. Another great idea is to set up a decoration swap in your neighborhood. Get everyone together that has old decorations that they no longer use. Then everyone can swap decorations, and get items they would rather use.

Be creative with your decorating. Use items you already have, or can get for a small price. Shop around before buying anything. Make your Christmas season special, while staying on a budget.
