How to enjoy being single on a budget

Some of us single out there who have been working hard our entire lives are now looking for some ways to relax and take more time for ourselves.  There a millions of ways to cut back and enjoy, but it can seem overwhelming.  So here are some good suggestions.

Take a class. Community colleges over fun classes that wonit break the bank and what better excuse to have to leave work on time.  So find some courses that you are interested in and either register for the class and get credit or sign up to audit the class which is free.  You don’t have to take classes that are actual work, take something fun.  No one will know.

We are all entitled to our own time outside of work.  So talk to your boss and tell him or her that you have other commitments and would like to have the workload distributed evenly among your co-workers.  If they think youire being selfish, just ignore it.  Taking time for yourself is not selfish.

Remember that you only have one chance to live your life.  You donit need to work day in and day out.  If you have interests pursue them now, you may not be interested in the same things 5 to 10 years from now.  Make sure that your boss and your co-workers know that you time is valuable.  If you want to travel take the time off and travel.  Your job is not your life.

Others need to understand that just because you’re not married and donit have a family to take care of, that doesn’t mean your not busy.  Let them know that your time outside of work is not free time and you do have a busy schedule.

When it comes to being frugal or cutting back costs.  You need to budget. Write everything down, know what you have coming in and what bills need to be paid.  Then designate money for certain things and most importantly don’t spend what you donit have.  When it comes to shopping by things that are on sale and don’t be ashamed to clip coupons.  If you can go shopping with someone else at a bulk store then split the food and the cost.

Meals are hard. A lot of us tend to eat on the run and eating out is costly.  Try pre-packaging food items at home that you can take with you for the day.  If you do eat out order a meal that you know is a large portion and take some home for dinner, you’ll get two meals out of one.

Time for new clothes? Have a clothes swap with your friends or alter items you already have to make them fun and new again.

Need some entertainment? There are tons of free places out there.  If you want to see a movie either go to a matinee or a movie theatre that runs movies well after theyive come out, itis cheaper.  Feel like a drink or meal out at a bar, hit up happy hour they have half price deals at most places.

When it comes to scheduling  itis a balancing act.  You may be able to work out a special schedule with your boss to work different hours.  Don Aslett’s has written two really good books on time management: How to Have a 48 Hour Day and How to Handle 1,000 Things at Once.

Looking for thing to do with other singles?  Check you local papers, churches and tourist bureau. As for the nasty comments at work.  You canit control what others say, so just shrug it off.

Yeah, it's really expensive having a boyfriend. Anniversaries, presents, vacations, food. More food and . . . yeah, food =( When I was single I never had trouble saving, but with a boyfriend in tow, I find myself thinking of him while at the mall, and buying him clothes, or buying him his favorite desserts .. .etc. But I don't think I'd trade my bf for a bigger bank account :P
