How to Layer a Lasagna Garden.

First gather your ingredients.

  • A whole pile of old newspapers.
  • Bales of Hay Lucerne is wonderful as it supplies alot of great nutrients
  • Composted cow manure
  • Compost if you have some
  • A bag of lime
  • Some natural minerals like a mixture of basalt, granite crushed
  • Biodynamic Preparations from a biodynamic association
  • A hose on hand for watering

You are now ready to begin.

First lay down newspapers thickly over the area you want your garden to be. Water this down so the wind does not lift the paper as you are putting your first layer on.

Then spred your hay at least 6 inches thick. Water lightly

Next comes the manure about and inch or two over the hay.

Then a sprinkling of lime and minerals.

Repeat this for at least two layers if not more, watering it lightly as you go so it is moist but not sodden. This will compact down as it begins to break down and form excellent soil.

Then take your biodynamic Preparations and stir as required forming a vortex one way and then the next till it is done this can take from 20 minutes to and hour depending on which ones you are using.

Then sprinkle this in big drops all over the pile.

If you wish to plant any seeds or plants you can. Take some compost and form holes where you want your plants to be. Then plant your seedlings making sure the plants are firmly planted. Water in.

If you wish to plant seeds you can do this too with either rows or individually using the compost and plant according to the depth required.

Water in. Then just make sure that they get adequate water but do not over water. So test to see, before watering.

This will produce wonderful plants be they vegetables or whatever you are growing. The pile will decompose forming wonderful humus and you can every year add more as you go. This is great for areas with poor soil or no soil and takes little time and is not back breaking work.

A simple easy method to get fast and great results for the new gardener to the poor experienced gardener.
