Great fresh-from-the garden recipes are hard to find. But, when you grow up with very little money and you depend  on the fruits (or veggies) of your labor, you find several different creations for the same item. Most, if not all, of the items grown in your basic home garden are wonderful when steamed . . . and it is so easy and fast when you use a microwave steamer. For example, steamed brussels sprouts are amazing and good for you, but adding a little bit of seasoning makes them even better! Microwave steamers are excellent for this dish! Check out this delicious recipe for

Garlic and Herb Brussels Sprouts

Brussles Sprouts in Garlic and Butter

Things You’ll Need:

* microwave steamer

* brussels sprouts

* 2 sticks of butter

* 2 Tbs. of parsley

* 2 Tbs. of garlic (fresh or powdered)

* water for steaming

* and a great appetite

Instructions:

Step 1

The first thing you will need are some fresh green brussels sprouts. The amount that you will need depends on how much you want and how much you love these tasty little treats! Don’t forget to wash them thoroughly - you don’t want to add unnecessary "crunch"!

Step 2

Fill the microwave steamer to the recommended line with water, and place the tray in the base. Next, place the brussels sprouts on the tray in a single layer. Place the lid onto the steamer and microwave for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. Carefully remove the tray from the microwave (hot liquid!) and check the sprouts with a fork. If the fork slices into and out of the sprouts easily, they are done.

Step 3

In a separate dish, place two sticks of butter, 2 Tbs. of parsley, and 2 tbs of garlic. Place the dish into the microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until melted completely. Carefully  remove from the microwave and stir thoroughly.

Step 4

Serve while still warm. Place the brussels sprouts in a wide, fairly deep bowl and cover with the seasoned butter sauce. Salt and pepper or cheese may be added for taste.

Serves 2–or more, depending on the amount of brussels sprouts you started with.

These tasty morsels are a wonderful side dish or just a treat to have when you need a little snack! Check out this and more garden fresh recipes to come! Enjoy!

(Note: this recipe would work equally well on the stovetop, using a saucepan and metal steamer.)

***Warning: The microwave steamer and bowl containing butter and garlic herb mix may be hot, please use caution. Oven gloves may need to be used.***
