How to name your baby after a color

Trying to pick a unique baby name has its good points and bad points. Sometimes people will name their baby after a famous celebrity, singer, flower, gem, holiday, and even a color. One of my neighbors just had a baby girl and she named her Cyan Desiree. Cyan means the color Blue in Greek or Baby Blue, Teal, Turquoise, and Aquamarine. After I heard the name it got me thinking about writing an article with baby names named after a color. I went home and grabbed all of my kid’s crayons and started looking at all of the names of the colors. After looking at all the crayons I then went into my hair color selection to see what I can come up with for a baby name. Some of the color names were actually very beautiful and would definitely make a unique baby name.

When deciding on a unique baby name you must take into consideration what will my baby’s nickname be if any? What will my child think about his/her name when they get older? Also with the way kids treat other kids today will your child get picked on all the time because of his/her name? Some parents don’t think of all those questions they just want to be different and that’s it. Some of the strangest babies’ names I have heard are from celebrities. Who would ever name their kid Audio Science? This poor girl was named 6 years ago by Shannyn Sossaman. Another wacky baby name they always had me boggled was Apple. Why would a parent name a child after a fruit? Did Gwyneth Paltrow have an obsession with apples so much that she needed to name her baby girl Apple?

If you are deciding on picking out a baby name after a color please be sure to think about your child in the near future. What are some baby names I can choose as far as colors go? From what I have looked at some of these color names will be appropriate, while others may sound a bit wacky. I will give you all the color theme baby names I came up with, because maybe somebody out there will actually enjoy some of the wacky names and be daring enough to name their poor child this.

Color names for baby

Rose- This name is very popular and I can see why. A Rose is a very beautiful flower that all women enjoy to look at, smell, or receive.

Crimson- This color is a very deep, bold, and bright Red that is very popular in the hair world today. As far as a name for a baby girl I think it’s pretty suitable. It really depends if you are having a middle name and how Crimson flows with your last name.

Sienna- This is a very rich, deep, and beautiful shade of Brown with vivid tints of Red in it. Sienna has been very popular through out the years and still remains a very pretty baby girl name.

Auburn- This is a Brown color with Red highlights added to it. The highlights can be a light Red, Medium Red, or Dark Red. Auburn for a baby name I think would be quite tacky to say the least.

Violet- This color is a beautiful shade of Purple, but Violet is also a very sweet looking flower. I have only known one baby named Violet and her middle name was actually Rose. This fit very well with her and her last name, which I won’t give away due to privacy.

Navy- This is a very dark shade of Blue. I think Navy is very different for a baby’s name, but not suitable enough. If someone named their baby Navy, the baby may end up being called Navy Blue.

Sky- This color is a light Blue also known as Sky Blue, Baby Blue, or Angel Blue. The baby name Sky can also be spelled Skye or Skyy, which means water giver or a form of Skye. Other names you can use for Sky are Skyler, Skylar, or Skyla. For a baby name Sky can be really nice.

Lavender- This color is a very pretty Purple shade with hints of Blue in it. Lavender is also a flower. To me Lavender is a very soothing word, but for a baby’s name I think not.

Honey- Honey has many different meanings. You can refer Honey to hair color, your sweetheart, or the honey you eat. Honey for a baby name absolutely not, but a nickname yes.

Slate- This is a somewhat of a Blue color with added Gray tones to it. When I hear the word slate roof always comes to mind. With that thought a baby name Slate is bizarre, unless you want to name your baby Slater.

Apricot- This is a light Yellow color with an Orange tint. This name would be too weird reminds me of the baby name Apple.

Henna- This Red hair color is a very pretty shade of Reddish Brown. Believe it or not Henna is somewhat popular for a baby girl name. So I guess Henna is suitable.

Cerise- This is a very pretty shade of Pink. This color almost looks like a Hot Pink shade almost. For a baby name Cerise would be kind of interesting to see or hear.

Scarlet- This color of Red reminds me of a Red Chili pepper color. I have heard this name quite a few times and I think it’s actually very pretty.

Other baby names named after a color are Sepia, Salmon, Coral, Orchid, Plum, Olive, Magenta, Jazzberry, Fuchsia, Fern, Carnation, Dandelion, and Sage.

Most of those names are really pretty. I don't know that I would name a baby Apricot... but hey.. if Apple is okay for a baby.. what's wrong with Apricot? My friend named her daughter Autumn, which is a season and refers to color. ;)

I really like the name Rose, Skye and Honey. I use the latter all the time to my close friends, why not with any kids I may have. Great article again! What talent we have here on Factoidz!
