If you are expecting, it would be a great idea to have a suitcase or overnight bag packed because you just never know when the time will come. Here are some suggestions of what to pack:
1) The usual toiletries that you would pack if you were going somewhere overnight or for a few days … for example deodorant, Q-Tips, soap, toothpaste, tooth brush, hair brush, cosmetics, etc.
2) Some calming music that may help during labor or help you sleep after baby is born, and a mini portable stereo or discman to play the music on.
3) Pens, paper, baby announcement cards to fill out, crosswords, word searches, magazines, books, or something you enjoy to keep you occupied because after visiting hours are over at the Hospital it gets pretty boring.
4) Some of your favorite things for example a teddy bear, knitting or crocheting, a certain food that the Hospital will allow, a special scent, photos, etc
5) If you use it, make up is a great idea because when your family and friends show up you know the cameras will be snapping photos of you and the new bundle of joy.
6) An outfit (loose fitting clothing is best) to leave the Hospital in once your visit is over.
7) An outfit for baby to come home from the Hospital in.
8) Don’t forget an infant car seat to get the baby home in, most Hospital’s won’t let you leave with the baby without one.
9) A cell phone incase the room you get doesn’t have a phone and cell phones are allowed, and a bunch of quarters in case cell phones aren’t allowed and there is a pay phone available.
10) An address book or a check list of who to phone once the baby has arrived.
11) A toy, blanket, and other things for the baby that you might want him or her to have.
12) Pillows from home to keep you comfortable if you like lots of pillows or have a favorite that you take with you whenever you travel.
13) Slippers to keep your feet warm, and so you can walk to and from the television room, cafeteria, or visiting area and not have to worry about having bare feet.
14) For baby some extra diapers, receiving blankets, sweater, heavier blankets or a car seat cover if it’s cooler out.
15) Nursing bra, nursing pillow, and breast pads if you are going to be nursing baby.
16) Lip balms, lotions, and candies for dry skin and dry mouth.
17) Comfortable pyjamas as you may get sick of the Hospital gown very easily.
18) The baby book so you can get started right away filling in the date, time, length, and weight of baby.
