Gift Giving on a Budget this Coming Holiday Season: 2 Gift Ideas For You to Use...
With the annual celebration of Father’s approaching most of us have no idea what to get the man who seemingly has everything. Choosing a gift for dad can be difficult for most children, regardless of age. Throw in the competition of the Mother’s Day gift and you could have yourself a real dilemma. There are a few things you should keep in mind when choosing that perfect gift for dad, grandpa, step-dad and whoever else you consider to be a father figure.
Homemade gifts are nice if you are younger than 10 or have a talent that dad loves. Generally speaking, if you are going to make something homemade make sure it’s good. A hand colored card from your 30-year-old son doesn’t usually give the warm and fuzzy feeling that a new pair of golf clubs would. In light of the recent economic conditions you absolutely do not need to feel like you should spend a lot of money on a gift and if you really want that personal touch try something you and your dad can do together. This could be a round of golf for two at a local course or two tickets to a local baseball game. The time spent together can be as inexpensive and meaningful as a homemade gift.
Do not be afraid to send gift cards and certificates. Gift cards can be excellent gift ideas and they do not have to be impersonal. Getting a gift card to a restaurant you and your dad loved to go to when you were a kid can be memorable and fun. The best way to add a personal touch to a gift card is to pick a store with meaning. If you and your dad loved to plant the garden every year together get him a gift card to a local gardening store. If you loved watching old movies together a gift card for the local movie theater would be appropriate. The key to this gift is explaining why you choose it. Accompany the gift certificate with a card and a hand written note describing why you chose the card you chose.
Don’t limit yourself. If you give yourself ten minutes to brainstorm your dad’s five favorite things in life you are sure to come up with a great gift. Think about places dad likes to go, things that would make his life easier, old memories you have together. This exercise most likely will reveal several great gift ideas for your dad. At a minimum you will come up with some places to grab a gift certificate and personalize the card with your fondest memory.
