Help - My Hair is Green! Chlorinated Swimming Pools and the Fair-Haired Person

How can you get the green color out of your blonde hair from the chlorine? Are there any home remedies that actually take the green out? Yes, there are quite a few home remedies for this, but some may not work as well as others. The results will vary depending on how much green is actually in the person’s hair. If you only have a slight green tint from the chlorine you can probably get away with just using an aspirin. If the green tint is over powering you might need to do a double procedure by using a clarifying shampoo first followed by a tomato soup rinse. Some people swear by using a tomato paste, but from experience I had better results using a can of tomato soup.

What is the best clarifying shampoo to help take the green out of chlorine hair? Actually there are two products I feel work the best. The first one is called “RPR De-Chlorinate My Hair”. This shampoo will take the green out of chlorine hair, keep it soft, and can be used on a every other day basis to help prevent any more green from chlorine or damage from the ocean or sun. The smell is very pleasant, and it lathers up quite well from using just a very small amount. The price is a little expensive, but it will take the green out and save you from going to the hair salon and paying a fortune. Price is $16.95 for 7 ounces.

The next clarifying shampoo to help take the green out of blonde hair/chlorine is called “Latte Clarifying Shampoo by Terax hair products. This clarifying shampoo will take the green out, takes out smoke, salt, styling products, and any other gunk your hair has absorbed without removing the oils and moisture in your hair. This is a super product very gentle on your hair, full of proteins, protects from sun damage, and will keep your hair shiny and soft. For $20.00 you can get a 20 ounce bottle that will last you a few months or basically through the summer.

What are some home remedies I can use to get the green out of my blonde hair from the chlorine?

Take a can of flat Coca-Cola pour it into an applicator bottle. Then add a squirt of Lemon juice to the cola. Lean over the sink and slowly pour this mixture onto your head. Make sure you completely saturate the entire head. This will be a little bit messy, but the results in the end are well worth it. Once you have the whole head completely wet place a plastic processing cap on. You can buy these at a beauty store for like $2.00. Leave the mixture on your head for 8-11 minutes. Rinse out with cool water. Place a conditioner on your head run it through then rinse off.

Prell or Pert shampoo with hot water- Take some of the shampoo place it into an applicator bottle. Now fill the bottle up half way with really hot water. Now not too hot that it will burn your scalp, but as hot as you can stand it would be best. Shake this up then apply to your head. Leave this on for 20 minutes. Rinse it out place a conditioner on your head to put moisture back. Style and comb as usual.

A mixture of a cheap dishwashing detergent with a scoop of baking soda will also help take the green out of blonde chlorine hair. I do highly suggest using Dawn or Palmolive. Place a few squirts of the dishwashing liquid into a bowl or bottle. To make it less messy for you I suggest using a bowl. Take a spoonful of baking powder and add it to the detergent. Mix this up place onto hair. Rub this in to make sure all green areas are fully covered. Then leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse out with cool water. Place a conditioner on top comb through rinse out again with another cool rinse to close the pores up.

Last tip to get green out of blonde chlorine hair is using a vinegar and lemon mix. Grab a bottle and pour a few tablespoons of vinegar into the bottle. Then either squeeze a few lemons and add it to this mixture or use the bottled lemon juice and pour a few tablespoons in. For some reason though to me the fresh lemons seem to work a tad better. Pour this onto your hair and leave it on for 5-7 minutes. Rinse this out and add a cool rinse. Style as usual.
